Brace Height / REDS...Does this look right?

Post by brwndg »

Hi. I am new to XB hunting and this Forum, although I have been lurking since November gathering knowledge. I shot a compound for 30 years before my shoulder went out last year. Went with an Excalibur because they are the best from my research. Got my Matrix 310 in November and took awhile to get around to setting it up & sighting in.
Now that all the prep is complete & sighting in done, I feel that I am ready to hunt...but something seems wrong.
I have a string-stopper on my vert bow and the correct set up for string-to-bumper distance was "slip a credit card between the string and the bumper". Well...on the Matrix the string is about 1/2" away from the REDS and 3/4+" from the mark on the rail. Also the string is in very direct contact riding the rail.
So, how far back from the REDS & brace height mark should the string be?
Thanks in advance, Tim

Everytime I try to add pic I get a notification "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached".

Welcome to the forum Tim.
The string should be in contact with the rail. As far as the brace height I keep mine at 7/8" on my 355. I think it's better to have to much than to little B.H

Welcome, the string on your recently assembled 310 will stretch and you can speed this up by leaving it cocked overnight or shoot the crap out of to get the same result.

Some like a 1/4" off the REDS, and some prefer a bit less and some a bit more. Also remember to take action and twist your string to shorten it before your string digs into the REDS at rest.

Download your pics to photobucket, then you can copy and paste from there. There is a post somewhere that has some good directions that will help.

Shoot that string a lot and as Normous said, leave it cocked overnight to help it stretch. After it settles I'd keep it about 1 string width to 1/4" off the REDS . But it is fine where it is. Ignore the line because the REDS keep it from getting that low anyway.

Doesn't sound right. It's no more difficult to replace the string using the cocking rope on the stringing aid than it is to cock the bow normally.

As said..................shoot the bow lots.................the string will stretch..............otherwise, if the string for the most part has done it`s stretching thing, use the stringing aid and take some twist(s) out of the string, try three complete twists and see how it looks. Everyone MUST have a stringing aid.

Thanks for the input. I left it cocked overnight & it did stretch a tad. Went out and did some serious shooting Saturday and got her all zeroed in again. I put on some lighted nocks (Nock Outs) and boy did they effect my POI. I was about 3" lower at 30 yds w these nocks installed. Crazy. Dropped my speed by almost 20 fps. Not sure I am gonna like them so much.
