What arrow weight do you prefer?
Re: What arrow weight do you prefer?
After watching some videos on heavy arrows, I decided to build a heavy weight arrow for my Matrix 405. I ended up with 20" Easton XX75 2219 arrows, with a total weight of 711 grains. The bow is noticeably quieter, and is still shooting around 310fps. Can anyone tell me if this would help reduce the chance of limb failure?

Curious what your set up is. I've gotten tired of broadheads being destroyed on ribs and failure to get pass throughs when hitting bone. Any idea what your speed is? I don't have a chronograph and want to make sure the speed will still work with the speed ring on my scope. It goes down to 250. I've been getting around 300 with 432 grains.

295fps. Spynal Tapps with 110gr inserts. 125 gr Iron Will broadheads with 50 grain Innerlock adapters.Noreaster wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 1:19 pmCurious what your set up is. Re: What arrow weight do you prefer?
Great, thanks for getting back to me. I'm planning on black eagle executioners with a 92 grain insert and 200 grain grizzlystik Samurai broadheads. I just tested spinal tapps with the 110 and 200 grain field points and they were right at 290. Slow motion video showed some wobble, but I put the offending arrow on a spinner and the field point had some run out. I'll test again tomorrow, but the spine on the spinal taps, zombie slayers and BEE's seem to handle the extra weight up front with no problem. Again, thanks a bunch, Lenny

You might consider upping the weight some. A couple years back Excal stopped shipping 150 practise heads and dropped to 100 as people complained they weren't getting the "advertised speed". But the numbers above suggest most people are shooting higher weights than factory

Re: What arrow weight do you prefer?
I used 400gr for years, but after reading I will be upping to 450gr minimum.

Re: What arrow weight do you prefer?
I only shoot the Excalibur factory arrows with Excalibur's 150gr Boltcutters. Accurate enough to ruin arrows out to 80+ yards & has killed EVERY single animal I've shot at!
My Equinox arrows total 417gr & my Micro 340 arrows total 400gr. Both supply perfection for me, so I'm very pleased with the combination of speed & penetration provided as is. I've never NOT had a pass through

Using 2219 XX75 @20” with 1916 Gamegetter insert @18”. Broad head is 200grain Grizzly two blade. Calculated weight is 741 grains. Crossbow is Exocet 200. Hits like a sledgehammer. No more shattered carbon shafts and passes through anything deer or hog so far.

Just set up some 505 grain Zombie Slayers for the new Wolverine.

I use black eagle zombie slayers with a 150 gr swacker 3 inch cut broad head. Thay weigh about 436 grains. They leave a hole. Not much of a blood trail so far. None of them, probably 5 have gone no more than 20 yards
