Bolts for Matrix 350 LE

Post by Browntown274 »

I just bought the Matrix 350 LE that will be here next week. I also purchased the stringer and the baby bumpers from Wyvern. I will be looking to upgrade scope/string in a few months after I get some shooting under my belt. I am now looking into getting some bolts made since it only comes with three, and my research on crossbow forums points me to south shore for some executioners, or spinal tapps (slayers are same $$ as spinals so I left those out). I think maybe 1/2 dozen of each will be a good start (going to split with my hunting buddy that bought the same crossbow).

I am new to this so trying to understand what would be ideal for this bow.
What total weight should I be shooting for if this bow will be used for deer hunting, 350-375, 375-395, or 400-425?

Is 18" ideal for the matrix 350? He has all different lengths in 1/4 inch increments.
Are the blazer veins in 2'' what is recommended? (RH helical)
Brass insert in 92/110g and flat aluminum nook for rear?

Slick trick broad heads 100/125/150g? I guess after I weigh the finished bolts I can decide the best broad head weight to make final weight. Do most pick broad head weight then build bolts to make final weight? I guess this is where the brass insert weight comes into play.

Is there anything I am missing that needs to be addressed? Do I understand this OK?

Just from my own personal observation, my 350 LE came with the 350 gr bolts and a shadowzone scope. the shadowzone is rated to a max of 350 fps.
I found with this combination of bolt weight and scope dialed in at max that I believe the 350 LE is a little faster than 350 fps. Although I haven't chrono'd it I can say I think it's a bit faster.
When I zero the scope in at 20 yrds and hit dimes consistently I'm hitting a few inches high of the recital marks at 40 yrds. Rather than gambling on the discrepancy and buying a higher fps scope to see if it helps I've been playing with bolt weights a bit to calm it down.
So I would suggest not knowing what scope you may have, if your having a bit of trouble zeroing in the scope, up the fps ajustments a touch or play with the bolt weights as well. Like I said it's just my personal observations

Think I will replace the scope with the XB75 once season gets closer.

I am shooting 18" BEEs out of mine that weight 382 grains and they shoot the same holes as my 17" Spynal Taps at 384 grains at 40 yards. Either will do just fine in the 350.

Thanks for all the info, do you know what your insert weighs and what weight broad head/field points are you using?

Not right off hand on the inserts but I am shooting the factory fletched 18" BEEs that I bought on Ebay. They shoot great. I think they have the 90 grain inserts.
I shoot 100 grain field points and broad heads.
