Extended cheek piece for the bulldog 400

Post by Adam Mander »

Hey I recently purchased the Bulldog 400 and am realizing the cheek piece is quite a bit too short for me. I am getting more of a "Jaw Weld" as opposed to a cheek weld. This isn't by any means the end of the world as there's no recoil, but I was just wondering if there will be taller/adjustable cheek rests being released down the road?

Thanks,
Adam

I am in the exact same situation with a new Bulldog.

I have a post going already that has some good fixes/alternatives suggested by other board members.

Go to Amazon.com and check out the Tourbon adjustable cheek piece. Very well made and can be made to fit perfectly....and welcome to the forum. :D

It does look nice, but the problem will be with the velcro straps and the odd shapes Bulldog stock. Those straps are sized/length for a full stock shape, so when you put that on a Bulldog and cinch it down, it will pull "too much" and not have any velcro to stick to.

There was some one at Boofest this year who made some and was giving them away. I don't remember who it was but he's a member here.
Maybe he will see this thread and help

I drafted up and 3D printed some cheekpieces that would fit the Bulldogs and a couple of other bows as well.

Here is the original write up that I did on them

and there a couple more photos here

These take roughly 7 hours to print, so I usually print them overnight. The purple is PLA plastic, and the black plastic ones are printed in PETG reinforced with glass fibers.

Impressive, is it possible to mount the factory cheek piece to yours?

Kydex is fairly inexpensive, and can be formed over a mold ( simple 2x planed to thickess. It would need to be 1" thick for a 1" inside clear measurement on a Micro stock ) It is heat sensitive and can be formed with a heat gun or even some hair dryers. Cutting the slots at proper spacing is only precision part of this. It could be done with a Dremel if you are the handy sort. You can buy Kydex on ebay and some "ready made" adjustable cheek pieces, but the spacing of the slots is not correct I don't believe. I went the route of the "ready made s" on my Matrix, but then made a form that is narrower to work better on the stock. I added a 1/8" neoprene foam to it for comfort. It is great and not hard to do.

NOTE: this was on forum earlier from another member( DREW, maybe, not sure). It is not my idea, I just liked it and copied it. I think it works great!Image
In the pic it is not quite finished, but you can see it is adjustable, etc.

That's a Vortex stock. I have been looking for a cheek rest for my Vortex too.
