BRAND NEW!

Post by CapCity 355 »

Hey guys, I have always been interested in crossbows ever since I was a young lad but never purchased one because everyone I know hunts traditional or compound bows and they claimed only people in wheelchairs should shoot crossbows. Well after years of wondering what it would be like to harvest a deer with one I said screw them and sold the Bear compound bow. I invested a ton of time on reviews and recommendation and decided to get the Matrix 355, I also ordered BEE's and Rage X broadheads in 100 grains.
Couple things I would love to know is..
-Are you shooting BEE's with Rage and how are your liking them? (mine are in the mail so I cant shoot them as of yet.)
-Ive heard people saying dont waste your money on R.E.D.S, do you have them and how do you like them?
ALSO is there anyone in the Southern Vancouver Island area on this forum??

Anyways thanks for having me guys and cant wait to soak in all the wisdom!

Welcome to the forum. You chose an excellent crossbow for your first. Make sure to buy a stringing aid, if you don't have one, and be vigilant about maintaining you your brace height because that stock string will stretch and brace height will get lower which can be bad for these bows.

-The BEEs are good arrows, those Rage heads well?... Search this forum, some love them, some hate them. I'm in the hate them group :D
-The REDS are absolutely useful. Get them or the Danny Miller bumpers, which can be purchased through Boo on the trading post. I strongly advise that you get the bumpers.
-IronNoggin and Paulaboutform are two long standing and knowledgable members from out your way.

First off . Welcome to the forum .
The two individuals may not be right in Victoria . But are fairly close . Paul is a boat ride across from you .
From what I remember of the deer . Your 355 may be overkill . Line two or three up .
Riding out by Sooke or Royal Roads I remember looking down at them . :)

Congratulations!!! I have a 355 too, and love it!!! In my opinion, the best of all. Get the bumbers, they help with noise and vibration. Well worth the money. I like black eagles, only hunt with zombieslayers. Made from big John. Great arrow maker on here. I use to shoot rage, but heard sometimes they open early. Been shooting g5 montecs and strikers for three years. Really like them. But it's really what you like
Good luck and keep us posted!!!
355 matrix, big johns arrows- zombieslayers, g5 montecs, strikers. Vortex big johns arrows- zombieslayers g5 montecs 125. Lumenoks.

welcome to the forum and congrats on the awesome bow. I too used to own one.... dont let her ride in the backnof the pickup  .
BEA arrows are great. Cant go wrong there, some prefer the stiffer Zombies depending on the bow.
REDS,,,,, yes get Dannys set, cheaper, and get a set Dannys arra pullers when you talk to Boo as well.
I shot rages out of my old Vortex,,, never had the guts to shoot them from my 355. Some love some hate as Derrick said. Im in the middle but didnt trust them enough when my draw weight jumped to the 355.
Be wary of Paul...... he has a way of making to spend more money

Welcome to the forum!!! :D :D
Congrats on your 355...i just bought a Matrix 350, kinda like the 355 just with a full camo rail & just a tad more draw length. :)
Don't shoot for groups with an excalibur unless you got money to burn on arrow's. I can drop arrow's in the same hole at 20 all day. 8)
I shoot spitfire's, will probably put a dental band on them out of the 350.

Welcome to the forum CapCity. :D There's a wealth of knowledge from the great members here who are happy to pass along their experience. Ironoggin is on the island and if you were able to connect with him it would serve you well. He's a great guy and a shooting machine.
I agree with everyone, get the bumpers. They do make a difference. The biggest 'must have' is the stringing aid so you can adjust and maintain a correct brace height.....and don't pay attention to that Newbie fella, I wouldn't have you spend your money frivolously, only on necessities.

Danny is in USA and does not do internet.
Boo (Don) on this site has the bumpers for sale in Canada. Look in the trading post.

The Matrix 355 is an awesome model combining excellent performance as well as dependability.... I love mine but think the bull elk I took with it last September , probably felt differently about it.

My only suggestions would be as many have suggested, a set of Danny's "baby bumpers", while talking with he or Boo, I would reccommend including a cheek rest and a scope mount with the ADF ( anti dry fire device ) into your order.. Both it and the bumpers are cheap insurance for your investment, for you as the shooter, and for those who may be near by, should the dreaded dry fire take place while you or a friend are handling or shooting it.

An "Excellent" Custom flemish string can be gotten form Boo while your at it.

We are not "That Far" apart as I live just down I-5 above Vancouver WA.

Cabela's screwed up and installed both the cheek piece as well as the anti dry fire onto my 355 without changing the price, in fact it was even on sale for $849 and got 10% military discount. Im definitely not complaining.
