First attempt at an arrow

Post by Sparkey »

So this is my first attempt at an arrow

Image

It is an easton xx75 Magnum 2216 cut down to 17.25 inches. FInal arrow weight is 276 grains with a 125 grain bh giving me 401 grains total. I have yet to check on a scale to verify the actual versus calculated weight.

I have not shot it yet, but am looking forward to seeing how it flies.

BTW:

Easton XX75 2216 at 12gpi per inch cut to 17.25"
NAP Twister quick fletch 30 grains
Easton RPS insert 31 grains
Easton flat nock 8 grains

I used a tube cutter to trim the arrow, and then pushed the plastic flat nock into the trimmed end of the arrow as the cutter slightly crimps the edges. Which turns out nice as the nock is locked in place without the need for an adhesive.

Hey Sparkey,
Was thinking the same for my,bolts. I have some 2219 I'm going to cut down to 17/17.25. I've tried 16 inch and they seem to fly good jaunt haven't aired them out yet. I think 17 is the number. Shooting a grizzly cub' what bow you shooting them out of? let us now how they fly.

I'll be shooting it from a 350LE. Might even put a capture nock on one to see how it shoots out of my wife's Parker Challenger.

In the next few days I'll be weighing it and measuring FOC with both 125gr field point and my 125gr QAD Exodus Xbow full blades.

BTW, to get every arrow the same length, I have a flat board with a hole slightly larger than the arrow shaft bored into the wood to the correct length I want to remove from a 20" arrow. I can place the arrow vertically in the board, lay the tube cutter flat on same board and slide against the arrow shaft and slowly tighten in the clamps. Same cut-off every time.

So I actually had a chance to try out my arrow and at the same time sight in my new Sightmark SX Core 1.5-4.5 32mm Illuminated scope.

Image

These are all freehand at 20 yards after the initial sight-in. The arrow in the center is my new one and happily its flight is true. Oh, and this 350LE kicks ass! :D

Oh, and here is the new scope.

Arrow looks great and judging by the target I'd say you're good to go. :)

Actually the 2216 Magnum shaft does weigh 12 GPI . I thought it was off as well . Then I went and checked out the Easton arrow component chart .

Well I just threw a dozen arrows together. Aston 2219 cut to 17.25 along with insert, nock and vanes comes to 318.05. With a 150 gr head my total weight comes out to 468.05 and with a 100 gr head the total is 418.05. The heavier flies really well but I have not been able to shoot any great distance, hopefully I'll make it out to the range and see how it flies out to fifty yards. Penetration is outstanding and the aluminum is certainly easier to remove than the carbons.

Love it when a project works out! I had good luck with 2117 and QuickFletch vanes, 2" vanes. I've used the "Crossbow" 3" vanes Quickfletch and have had problems with vanes ripping on Matrix 355. I'm not sure why? 2" regular worked great.
