Killed a Jake this morning (shotgun kill)

Post by Hester0305 »

I headed out on our opening day for a very windy turkey hunt. I stayed in the blind as long as I could and didn't hear anything but the wind. The area I hunt has a lot of turkeys but this morning as it started to get daybreak I didn't hear not one gobble, last year I heard about 10 on opening day. I got out of the blind and did some calling and walking on some of the logging roads and stopping and calling for about 2 hours. I finally heard a bird gobble a long way off and as I started up the hill I noticed a young bird about 75 yards away and he hadn't seen me yet. I made a few quick yeps on my Glass Slate and got ready and he started straight to me, when he got within 40 yards he stopped on top of one of the other logging roads just above me with his neck up looking. I already had the bead of my 20 ga. on his head and he went right down after the shot. I have 2 nice Turkey breasts getting ready for the freezer. I got this one just in time, the Mrs. and I are going on our 1st Cruise tomorrow for 5 days so the turkeys will have to wait till I get back.
