2213?

Post by Predator55 »

Can 2213 arrows be used for crossbows? I know 16/19's are good but what about the 13's?

I have used them in the past with good results. Back in the day I choose the 2213 series to build a light and fast arrow. One should be careful removing this thin wall aluminums from targets because bending them is possible.

My question(s) would be what bow are you shooting them with and what would the total weight of the arrow be? What type broadhead would you be shooting, mechanical or fixed? Finding a heavy enough weight mechanical to give the arrow proper weight for the bow being used would be a concern. You could always change the insert to maybe add more weight but also your foc may change not in a good way. What length of arrow you will be shooting also figures into the equation. Other than trial and error,my first concern(priority) would be the total arrow weight. Let us know what you come up with and save others the frustrations...lol!

Grizzly cub with matrix string, 200 lb. would be using a fixed head in the 150 to 200 gr. would be using a 17/17.25 in arrow. I am not sure what the arrow weighs in at but I'm guessing about 10gpi, so with inserts, vanes and a 150 gr head my total weight would be 392.5.

You will be better served with a thicker wall bolt.

I had no issues target shooting and deer hunting with my 20" 2213's at shooting at 315-317 fps, but I do remember bending a couple removing them from the BLOCK target if I muscled them out roughly.

If I was shooting a Cub and had those on hand, I would not hesitate to put them to use. I'd personally shoot for 375-400 grains finished total weight and feel confident in my choice.
If your practicing with field points in a bag target of some sort that's sufficient to stop them ? I see very little issue with withdrawing them... possibly lube them slightly when going to broadheads and a Rinehart target for final tune before hunting season arrives.

I have been using 2213s in both 20 inch and 22 inch long versions, aluminum front inserts, 100 grain Rocket Hammerheads, 4" long feathers, and Easton Carbon RPS inserts in the rear. These are a plastic insert for the rear that seem to no longer be made by Easton, they do occasionally pop up for sale on ebay. I am shooting these mainly from an Exomag going around 320-330 fps. These have worked well for deer, although they usually end up getting broke or bent going through the deer. This does not concern me as long as it does its job the one time I can make more as they are pretty low cost compared to carbons with similar runout.

I did try shooting two of them out of a Matrix 405 with 100 grain field tips, both arrows showed a permanent bend after hitting the 18 in 1 target. Not sure if they bent on launch or when they hit the target, either way I decided to stop shooting them from the 405. Somewhere between 330 and 405 fps is where you will likely start to see issues with the 2213s. The 18 in 1 is a fairly hard target so that may have been the issue when it was stopping versus being launched. If it is an issue with launch then adding a heavier field point or broadhead would cause the issues even earlier.

Depending on how fast you are planning on shooting them they work great, can always try a couple and see how they perform for you.

I am new to this forum but not new to archery or crossbow, I had a extra dozen GoldTip 2213''s and cut a few down to 20" added a 90gr brass insert, half moon nock, and a 100gr field point and had great results shooting from 175lb crossbow at around 345fps.
