Brace Height again

Post by brianpa »

I have a grizzly and I've read all kinds of post about brace height and I've read the Q&A section of this forum and still I am confused.
In the Q&A: where is matrix string to be set? 5/8 to 1 inch from joint, the 380 with REDS 1/8 inch off reds
Q&A what is the proper brace height for my excalibur : 1 to 1.5 inch from joint.
newer models with 2 lines on rail. any where between them. 1 line 3/8 inch on either side.
I have 1 line on my rail and I just purchased a 60X string and it sits right on the scribed line which is right at 1 1/5 inches from the joint.
What is right?
Thanks

I take it that there is no answer for what brace height is the right answer.
You just pick one and go for it.

The line is supposed to be a starting point. Start there and move your string a couple of twists up and down to see if the bow gives you what you want. There are no hard rules.

Do you have REDS or Dannys bumpers? If so set it about 1/4" off bumpers. new strings will get longer as you shoot. Watch it for a while until you are sure it has quit moving. My Matrix measures approx. 7/8" set that way. Too high a brace height and you loose a few fps. Too low a brace height and you put extra stress on limbs and limb tips. Using your bumpers is the "Easy Way". Don't even need a tape. :D
Since the Grizzly model uses a different riser the measurements may be different. I know they are different on a Micro. Go by your bumpers.

Wid bumpers jus keep yer string 3/16" off of them. The measurement of brace ht. is moot pt. Jus keep string off the bumpers

X2,3,4, whatever. I set mine at 1" if it gets below 3/4" I give it a couple twist back to an 1", if it get's down to 5/8" I ain't worried about ruining my bow, but I realize I need to get it raised back of the bumpers. I have seen no difference in how my bow shoots keeping them between 3/4" and 1" so that's my sweet spot.

I could use 1 1/4" if I wanted or 5/8" but I try and run the middle and stay away from any extremes high or low, just seems safest to me.
