Double serving and wax

Post by GRUNDY »

Anyone try to double serve their string? I see Scorpyd owners are doing this on some of their high poundage bows with good success. Seems that might help with some of the serving wear issues on the Micros.

Also, how is it that the compound crossbow guys seem to wax the hell outta their strings but us recurve guys seem to have serving separation problems if we start to wax much?

I've personally never seen waxing a string cause it to separate .

Scorpyd owners have a very acute string angle when cocked that cause their troubles. Excals really have no need fer a double served string. I am not big on the servin waxin but if'en served correctly you should get several hundred shots from a string

I wax my serving about every 50 to 70 or so shots, and never had a problem with serving separating on my strings. If you have serving separations on any of the excaliburs wit less than 500 shots on it,,,,, I'd question the server, or your claws,,, just my experience,,,,,

^^^ excellent advice. I'll add that rotating the string to wear on both sides is good practice too.

Thanks, great point, very important,, for twice the fun!! I recommend that about every 100 shots, leastwise this is about when I do it.

I would venture to say that any of the strings you get from the makers on this forum will be served properly....or if you have the knowledge yourself. These strings aren't served the same as compounds. Anyway, my experience with serving problems has come from jaws/string latches that need polishing. You can go to the Boocustomstrings website and read how to do this yourself. I promise it's well worth the effort. To be fair, it's been mostly after market custom triggers I've had to do a lot of polishing on latches.

What he said....

Also, if a string is not properly stretched before it is served you may see premature separation. Because the string will stretch, and as it does the diameter will get a bit smaller making it more prone to separation.
