Could of been a double!

Post by MADMAX2 »

Went out to the spot on Friday am that I was at last Sunday with the crossbow and had a big boy skirt my set up with two hens dragging behind him that morning he came to 50 yrds but would not stop for a shot and not enter my set up.

So I decided to try that bush and bring the 870 this time.
The birds started to fire up all around about 5:30 but nothing in the bush I was in DAM.

At 5:45 I did a series of tree yelps and the birds responded in the bush on the other side of the field nice I thought I did another series around 6:00 and again they fire up ok game on!

By 6:30 they are gobbling their heads off but not moving then out of the corner of my sight I catch movement to my right about 70yds another dam yote I had one on opener and last Saturday ruin my hunts.

The birds have gone silent but I decide to stay anyway and I do some light clucks every half hour at around 8:00 I catch movement out in the corn stubble and get the binos out and see two jakes running away out at 100 yds DAM yote I think then I see two red heads at the edge of the field where I saw the yote earlier.

The two long beards enter the field strutting but no gobbling they are out around 70yds and I slowly raise the gun and get the bead on the lead bird and they disappear to the corner of the field where I can no longer see them so I give a small putt on my diaphragm call and what seemed forever they are coming back into view.

I slowly raise the gun up and put the bead on the lead bird and send out a 3" #6 longbeard magnum and roll him!!

My brother was going to join me but backed out the night before too bad for him!!

Wow is all I can say about that ammo!!Far more pellets in the head and neck compared the old Winchesters I had been using the last ten years!!
