O no . . . not another Rag Target

I tried pail rag target and liked the stopping power and ease of arrow removal. So I bought garbage can then went to the Salvation Army thrift store and got a couple more bags of rags. Gives you a nice flat target face and room for more target spots when bench shooting. Don't bunch the rags in, layer them to provide maximum stopping power. My 380's are only penetrating about 6-7 inches into this new target. Total cost around $45 CA.



Then when you are done shooting set the can upright and put the lid on and your rag target stays nice and dry.

i have found the pail target far more durable than the ragbag i do like the larger can for longer distance stops the 405 and the 380

Penetration depends on how tight you pack the clothing in...

I wouldn't use it for broadheads though. They would not be fun trying to get them out.

My 380's using zombies c/w field points @ 20 yds penetrate about 6-8 inches into the target. I use another crossbow block target for broadheads because it is a pain to remove them from the rags.
The bottom half I just stuffed in rags, the top half I layered the rags one on top of the other for max. stopping resistance. You want to shoot through the layers not slide in between them.

Earlier this spring I made a rag target out of a box, layered the rags in the top of the box taped it all up. Thought I would test in the shop before going out. 'Turned' the box over to the target face and shot it point blank with my 380. Arrow went through a 12 in.thick box full of rags like it was not there and stuck in the floor . Moral of this story is make sure you are shooting through the layers and not sliding your arrow in between the layers.

I've used it with layered fleece blanket, and it's not too bad to remove , but u definitely have to wiggle it out carefully, but my only other targets is a Rineheart, and while there is a replaceable center for broad head use, I find it messes up the blades due to the hard target material. My FP's fly nearly exactly the same as my broad heads, so I only shoot a few shots with my broad heads anyway, just for peace of mind before I head out hunting, so I do not mind taking a couple minutes to remove the broad head .
