100 yard love with the Matrix 380....

Post by GrassyKnoll »

Shot this four arrow group ( two lumenoks and two with aluminium nocks ) this morning at 100 yards using my Matrix 380 and 16 1/4" Zombies with 110 grain brass insert, 100 grain field points and 2" blazers fletched on my EZ Fletch Bolt jig........ ruined one of them in the process.. Arrows are NOT spine indexed... all four shots from a seated and supported position..

Equipment used:
Matrix 380
TT trigger
Hawke XB30 scope last generation.
Danny Miller flemish string that I reserved last night..
BEE Zombies cut to 16 1/4" ( cut and squared by myself )
110 grain brass inset
100 grain FP
2" Blazers fletched on a EZ Bolt jig ( by myself )
Lumenoks and aluminium nocks
Caldwell FieldPod

Guess the point to this is that the recurve is such an accurate platform, why mess with wheels? And yeah, I'm kinda showing off .... lol

I've got to admit it, guys over on AT sporting those limb backwards bows bragging about shooting 100 yards had me a bit annoyed... As if their bows were the only ones capable of it.. Must use bow brand X rdx style of things and no less than spine indexed and matched arrow, I say arrow because most only post up a single arrow/shot over and over again, never shooting groups to make their point. Typical excuse given is that 'I don't want to ruin my arrows" Hog Wash I say.... Smash some nocks long range and make me a believer..

FWIW: I'm only half joking. The other half I'm dead serious about... Learn to shoot at a 100 yards and anything below that is merely a routine shot... Love shooting my Excaliburs....

Nothing will expose shooter form or equipment flaws like long range shooting. When I was on the competitive 3D circuit there was a technique regularly used called double distance practice. It was great for 3D and hunting because when you're regularly shooting 100yards the fifty and sixty yard shots feel like chip shots.

Joe, I would never attempt it on an animal but for practice, it sure is a confidence builder.. Makes those 50 and under shots seem like the old 20 yard shot with the vertical bows.. :) :)

Thanks guys..... It was fun shooting at that distance and I think I will make it part of my practice regimen to shoot 100 yards at least once a week..

Part of the reason I did this was because I got a bit miffed over on AT because a couple of the regulars are always touting how their RDX bows are so accurate ( but they only post up one shot groups. Shooting the same arrow over and over to validate their accuracy ) and to some extent the Elitist attitude displayed by these posters.. So I decided to prove that even a simple recurve is capable of the same groups without custom built, spine indexed arrows, though if I had a spine indexer I certainly would index them myself for the utmost consistency from arrow to arrow... Rant over LOL..

Thanks again guys..... :) :)

That's great shooting! Fortunately, that's just standard for Excalibur xbows. My M380,405,BD400 will all do that off of a benchrest. You did it w/o a benchrest setup! A Vortex on loan is even more accurate out to 80 yds.
You've shown that not only the M380 can be that accurate , but you are too.
Remember, the arrow got there in less than a second.

That's a lot better than I'd expect with short arrows. Nice shooting :D
