Contemplating Air Brakes for my 405

Post by bigrak »

Anyone have them on their 405? Any speed loss for those with a chrono?
Are they that much quieter?
Would they help my 405 limbs at all?
I read somewhere you have to remove them to change the string, can't see why?
Thanks.

Interesting you should ask this question now. Yesterday, I progressively removed items from my M405 and chronographed the speed effect.
All speeds were measured with a stock DM BD400 string ( string wt 99.0 g) and a 397.0g arrow.
With Air Brakes and 3 DrS limb silencers/limb placed as per instructions - 366
W/o Air Brakes but limb silencers - 373
W/o Air Brakes and clean limbs - 375
So I lost 7'/sec with Air Brakes.

Yes, a little quieter but heavier.

No effect on string changing.

I had ABs and limb silencers on my M380 & 405. But no more. Not going on my BD400.
I do have the DrS stirrup, cocking rope and string bumpers. Love them.
My 2 sets of ABs are in my closet now.

Just took the air brakes off the ibex they didnt do much in my opinion maby they work in other bows but not mine not missin the 6 ounces . Get a set of them big yarn puffs silencers that we used on our compounds might loose 5 fps but they will work wonders for 4 dollars my bows lost about half of its sound and no vibration

Do not need to remove them to change the string using a stringer.

Sew

Your m405 is dropping 30fps with a 400gr bolt. that seems like a lot, when they say its shoots 405fps with a 350 gr bolt.

Little off your bow to mine ..I bought 2 micro 335 1st gen..When i shot them I said they are terrible on sound. They made a SNAP noise ..I bought the AB and snap noise went away left 1 micro with it on other without..There was not big difference other than it did help on vibration in bow also and take that snap away..

also vixen string helped also on sound ..Crossbow experts tested the AB on excalibur its on youtube video and you can hear difference on micro 335 he tested ...But you will not hear this BIG difference on sound of bow just a improvement in the sound ....

as for weight of AB at 6 oz boy i cannot feel difference between bow with it or without it but that is just me some here that are experts feel they can notice the weight......

Yes, I agree that my M405 is not as fast as I hoped it would be. Nor is my BD400. However, to me, all their other attributes greatly outweigh this shortcoming. If the actual speed ratings were more realistic, I think it'd remove some disappointment that some owners experience. So actually, my M405 didn't drop 30'/sec which wasn't there there in the 1st place. My M380 looses 16'/sec from 353g to 399g, so appx 17-18'/sec from 350g to 400g.
The string used is about as fast as it can get. This is my fastest string(99g DM string).

+1

Same experience here. My 380 came with AB installed, and adding a Vixenmaster Force 10 string took all the "twang" out of the shot. Putting AB and one of Mike's Force 10 strings on my Micro improved things, but I still think my 380 is quieter. I don't notice the weight difference either.
