Micro 335 string care

Post by kuikaut »

After too many years, I finally took the plunge and bought an Excalibur. The Micro 335 has proved to be accurate beyond belief, but after 75-100 shots, I am starting to see some feathering of the stock sting serving where the two "jaws" hold the string. I've been waxing the deck and serving with Dead Downwind Speedstick wax every 10 shots (my retailer did not carry the Excalibur products). Am I:
a.) Waxing too much/too little?
b.) Simply using an inferior wax product?
c.) Simply seeing normal wear?
d.) Looking at an issue with the string "jaws".
Thanks for any help. Bear baits can be started in Maine TODAY! Can't wait till the
season opens.

Some minor fraying is normal.

Waxing every 10 shots is probably overkill, FWIW. I'm waxing more like once every 50-75 shots, if that often. Too much can create a mess, and I'm told migrate into your trigger mech - not good.

I usually wax my string once or twice a year whether it needs it or not. :D

I would say you are way over waxing.

I found one of the factory strings on my 335 the centre serving was taking a beating pretty quick. Switched to a custom string from a board member here, and the problem stopped. I currently have two custom strings for each of my micros made by two different custom string makers on this site and the problem has stopped.

I currently am shooting Dannys factory string. on the Micro they are a rock. serving wear is just as good as most custom strings as he uses AM serving.
The one Danny and Don put on mine last weekend has yet needed an adjustment. still sits the exact same distance from the bumpers as when installed.

My custom string started to show claw marks at about 25 shots ..Only thing I did was polish the claws and I removed as much wax as I could off the serving ..I use nothing on rail and claw marks are gone and string looks good at 100 shots..

too much wax and lube on rail caused my custom servings to get soft ..Dan m said not to use lube on rail when I did things got much better on servings ...

Here is what I did on my bows and it worked well for me.. Even on a Trigger Tech trigger mounted on my Micro.

Your short limbed Micro has a pretty acute string angle where it and all of it's associated draw weight come off of the outer edges of the trigger claws...The slightest roughness at that point will cause serving problems..... Check that area and polish carefully until they shine like a baby's A$$ with 1500 grit or slightly courser strips cut about 5'16" wide ......try and cover trigger opening areas with tape as well as possible before starting the process to protect it from the dust created.. I finish up using 2000 "wet" as a final step.

Gene I followed up your info before and used my Dremel tool buffing pad and high gloss buffing compound ..I could not get the Dremel pad in there so I took my table grinder and wore down pad so it looks like a chain saw stone or bigger ...it fit right in and polished the claws after I did what you did on sand paper ..Some [PAUL]
are using inside of paracord 550 as last step with high gloss polishing compound ...

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I'll start with less waxing and proceed form there.
