Awshucks 1 yr Past

Post by vixenmaster »

With a most heavy Heart i will post this poem my Mrs. wrote of my late best Friend. Its been a yr now n tears are rollin down my face like it was the day i got that terrible phone call tellin me he had been killed.

Dan, the Man

Dan Flaherty was smart as a whip, sharp as a tack, if you were his friend, he had your back.

Kindness was hidden, but there all the same.

Through his mind, out the mouth, often brusque and a bit profane, spitting out what he thought, no regard to shame,

He didn't run cold, he didn't run hot, what you saw is what you got, and a person sure knew if Flaherty liked them or not.

Humor may have been sparse, wit was dry. Dan's word was his bond and he looked you in the eye.

Always willing to help a fellow man, woman or child, his heart was big, on his word he didn't renege.

The big man treasured brotherhood with buddies, his friendship true blue; for his friends, there was nothing he wouldn't do.

Opinions were strong, and once stated, pretty much didn't change; when in a debate he was open to a lively exchange.

Dan's big hands handled his beloved bows and guns with skill. Whether hunting or competition shooting with either weapon, he enjoyed it with a manly thrill.

Known as “Awshucks” in the cross bow forum, peers looked to him for sage advice, as knowledge was solid, with explanations precise and concise.

Harleys were the first love for bikes, way cool and nice, but the last couple of years, Dan's Triumph was his spice.

Riding in Patriot Guard and ABATE with pride, was seriously done, in his stride. Wind in his face, road at his back, wherever he rolled, he left his track.

Known as “Aw Shucks” in the cross bow forum, peers looked to him for sage advice, as knowledge was solid, with explanations precise and concise.

A renewal of faith, a commitment made in the latter time of life. God sent love in place of strife.

Doubt, worries, sickness and troubles were healed, when before the throne, the big man kneeled.

As friends, we are thankful to know, Dan's eternity is secured, his pain racked body, and bruised spirited cured.

We can be assured angels were there as life flowed from the earthly body that day, to minister, control...and with love, escort Dan's soul away.

Wow! That chokes me up reading it and I'm sad I never got to meet Aweshucks in person. He is spoken of with much love and respect from my dear forum friends that knew him. I am happy to have the assurance that I will meet him one day as we are brothers in Christ.

I never met him but I still miss him. His posts were insightful, informative, and I looked foreward to them. It would be awshucks awesome if someone could post a pic so we can put a face to his name. I wonder if we could have a place to post pics of members who are not with us any more? R.I.P Dan.

Back in 2004 He answered some of my questions on Horton Crossbows and Dial -a-Range scope mounts that some were having problems with..He came up with idea of putting screw in the dial so it did not move ..

I could not get him mad at me being I was old school fred bear recurve hunter not crossbow hunter ..Sad to hear he passed away ..
