Zombie inserts

Post by cmarcum »

Hey all,
I made my first purchase of Black eagle zombie bolts. I ordered the fletched version. Anyone know the best way to change out the inserts without damaging the bolts?

Screw in a field point, then heat the field point and then pull it out. keep the heat source off of the carbon arrow.

Edited:

This technique I use is for inserts that have been glued in using two part epoxy.

Thanks, I will give it a try. I assume just a lighter is hot enough for a min or two?

Try putting them in some very hot water first rather than flame heat. Other option is to pull nock and tap insert out with rifle cleaning rod. I use a 8" piece of brass rod, put it in nock end and flick hard towards floor couple times. This works well just be careful as rod and insert comes flying out fast.

A drill bit that just fits inside the shaft works well too. Juat be careful and dont do it over your nice hardwood floor

I use the Excalibur arrow puller screwed into the insert, I heat the end in HOT water, and then tap the puller with a rubber mallet. They come out petty easily that way. Hot water for about 3 minutes!

Does that technique work for arrows that have the inserts glued in with two part epoxy?
