Hawke XB30 Pro Speed Ring
I recently installed a Hawke XB30 Pro on my M380. When I was siting it in I had to set the speed dial all the way down to 300 to get it accurate past 20 yards. I know that it is shooting a lot faster than 300fps. I am using the Diablo arrows and 150gr field tips. Anyone else ever have an issue with the speed ring being so far off?

I'm not sure I understand. Did you sight in using your speed ring? I'm assuming you dialed in using your turrets then adjusted your speed dial for the other yardages. If you did, I wouldn't worry about the number on the dial. I was with Comfybear on the 100yard range at Boofest and he dialed that scope in to 100yards in less than a dozen shots.

I think that I have mine set at 300 on my Grizzly. But that's because I chrony'd it at 277 with a set up.
I would say that nothing is exactly perfect. For instance when you use Hawke's ballistic calculator on your phone to get what your pins should be, I hope you know what I'm talking about, they aren't always exactly perfect but pretty close.

Something is not right. I have one on my 405 and never had that problem. I love mine. Give them a call if you followed the directions correctly.
Good luck.

Re: Hawke XB30 Pro Speed Ring
Yes, I set it up at 20 yards and was dead on. But in order to be accurate at 30, 40, 50 and 60 I had to move the speed ring to 300. I am shooting within 1-2 inches but it just seems strange I had to dial it down to 300 on a crossbow I know is shooting much faster.paulaboutform wrote:I'm not sure I understand. Re: Hawke XB30 Pro Speed Ring
I had to set my speed ring at a lower velocity setting than I thought appropriate for my 380 as well, but the good news is once I set it, the scope has retained its zero, and I've lost zero sleep over it since.
I wouldn't worry about it as long as you can get your rig zeroed properly at 20 yards, and hitting where you want at 30 yards as well.

Re: Hawke XB30 Pro Speed Ring
I wouldn't worry about it, it is actually a power adjustment. If it hits where you aim every time,, what more do you want,, and if you have the newest XB-30 Pro SR you own the finest crossbow hunting scope available. Many argue this,,,,, till they buy one, then they never look back!

Re: Hawke XB30 Pro Speed Ring
As stated several times here, the speed ring is not a chronograph, nor intended to be one. Set your zero dead on at 20 yards, move the target to 50 yards, and know that the arrow drop could be 36" so double stack a target to get that height. Now, use your 20 yard pin, aim at a dot at the top of this target 50 yards away and shoot, knowing your arrow will hit very low. Now, set the 20 yard dot on that dot you aimed at, zoom your scope until the 50 yard hash line meets the arrow while your 20 yard is on that top dot, speed set period! Don't tell your buddies it is at 300 FPS, it don't matter!

Re: Hawke XB30 Pro Speed Ring
I recently took a Leupold Crossbones off my Matrix 350 and replaced it with a Zeiss XB75. I had the Leupold set on 360 fps and was driving nails out to 50 yards. The Zeiss is set on 325 fps and is also driving nails at 50 yards, Same bow, same arrows. Why?? Damn if I know but I like it because I prefer the lower power setting for hunting.
As long as it works why worry?

Re: Hawke XB30 Pro Speed Ring
I do not use the speed ring only to zoom in to see better.when i did it was like 315 fps which is like 2 power.now i keep it at 380 fps on my micro and that is like 5 power ..When buck is at 20 yards i lower it and out to 30 yards i raise it ..
but that is not your question ..

Re: Hawke XB30 Pro Speed Ring
That is how we sight in our deer rifles, you take 1 shot while holding on the dot have friend turn crosshairs until it dead center on your bullet hole...3 shots and your gun is sighted in easy.xcaliber wrote:As stated several times here, the speed ring is not a chronograph, nor intended to be one. Re: Hawke XB30 Pro Speed Ring
It is not a speed ring. You use their computer program to dial it in according to speed and arrow weight and it tells you where to set the dial. Your yardage makers wont end up exactly on the tens all the way through. Look it up on their website.

They sure advertise it as a speed ring....Xbowkiller wrote:It is not a speed ring. I am glad I am not the only one confused by the "speed rings"!! It is all set now and shooting well so we will leave what's working alone!!robertyb wrote:I recently took a Leupold Crossbones off my Matrix 350 and replaced it with a Zeiss XB75. Re: Hawke XB30 Pro Speed Ring
Speed ring, magnification setting, it's all the same thing. What the ring does is change the magnification of the lens so the 30, 40, 50 etc reticles align to your POA at those yardages. If the arrows you are shooting have a similar ballistics coefficient as the ones they used to develop the reticle then your "speed setting" will be close to what they mark on the ring. If not, then it will be set differently. In your case, for whatever reason, the arrow is dropping more than their test arrows did so the setting is different.
If you go online, or get their ballistics app for your phone, you can go through the necessary steps to calculate your arrows BC and see what the setting should be for your setup. The only problem is that the app shows you the setting as a magnification (i.e. 1.5X, 2X etc.) but the scope ring has a speed setting. Do as Dan suggested...sight in at 20yds using the turrets only (the speed ring has no effect on the center crosshair as it is dead center in the middle of the lens), then go to 40 and use your 20yd reticle and shoot 1 arrow - be sure to compensate for the drop of the arrow. Then put your 20 yd crosshair on the POA, and adjust the ring until the 40yd crosshair is on the arrow. The verify that your arrow hits where you aim at 20, 30,, 40 etc.
NOTE: If your arrow you fire at 40 is not dead in line with the POA and is off in windage, then your arrow is most likely planning and all bets are off. It is spiraling down range in a circle and not just spinning about the axis of the shaft. If this is the case, then fix this first. Fix this first... Also, do all of this with a single arrow.
