Missing something???

Post by Sitkaspruce »

Newby here with my first question on my crossbow.

So I have tuned and sighted in my crossbow with the bolt set up I am shooting. Excalibur Matrix 350LE, have not set up the Chrony yet, will some time, but not really worried about speed, more about accuracy as I will be limited to 40y max until I shoot more and more.

- 18" carbon Diablos w/2" Blazers
- what I thought was 125 gr field points
- Total weight was 410 gr.

Now here is the problem, I weighted the field points and they are all 113.6-114gr......so they are not 100 or 125gr.
So I took my NAP Spitfires 125gr and they weight 146.6-147.1 gr.....same for my Exodus 125
Took my 100 gr 2 blade rage and they are 113-133.4 gr, same for my 100 gr Grim Reapers.

So, it looks like I was given 100 gr field points instead of 125's, which I will have to fix tomorrow.

The questions I have is do all field tips/BH weight more than listed??
Am I missing something??
Also will adding 33-34gr of weight really make much if a difference to the bolt and accuracy??

Cheers

my slick tricks weigh what they say, and so do my f/tips.
You have done a lot of measuring of different heads and they are all out. weird, maybe install a fresh battery or try another scale?

All my field points and broadheads weigh the described weights. I've weighed hundreds of them, 1-3 grns out at best. You need a new scale.

Have you zero' d the scale? Since ALL the points you weighed were over I would try there first.

Update

Electronic scale was FUBAR....went to my old RCBS scale and redid everything. The 125gr FP the local shop sold me were actually 100's, so went and got some 125's. They had the 100 and 125's mixed up, so we weight them all to make sure.

Re did my bolts and they now weight 378 gr with the 125's. Will shoot them this year and look at some custom ones next spring. Would like to be up around 400 gr with the same heads.

Will shoot both Spitfires and Exodus and see what shoots best.

Thanks all!! Great site for an awesome crossbow!!!

Cheers
