Hey long range guys? Trajectory and drop question

Post by janesy »

Had a arrow go over a target yesterday when letting some family shoot the crossbow. It got dark so I couldnt locate the arrow.

The table was approximately 5.5 feet off the ground and the bow was aimed pretty much horizontal when it went off. So what kind of drop are you seeing at what ranges? Give me an idea of where to look in the bean field. I heard it hit the crop so it's not that far out there

Forgot to mention it's 390grn leaving at 345fps

I just went out and duplicated your shot conditions .... but had to drive over 100 miles to find a large enough bean field.
Taking the contour of the earth into account ( it's round you know ) I come up with 97.6 yards but, I too am still looking for my arrow as it may have weighed a bit different ( 415 grains ) than the one you lost ?.....

I guess I should have shot one with an Ignitor lighted nock on it... and waited until after dark to try and find it. :!:
But then I'd be facing that long drive home in the dark.

That's exactly what I was going to do, fire an ignitor after it. But idea of sending a 30 arrow after a 15$ arrow just made me cut my losses.
I was my own fault. Unfortunately it's 250 km away and we left last night. They looked this morning but it's gone. I don't really care about the arrow, I was more worried he'd find it with his lawn mower if it didn't make the beans.

Thanks Gene!

Remember that it won't be lying on top of the surface vegetation. It will have burrowed itself underneath the grasses a bit, even to where the nock end is tunneled a bit into and against the dirt.
