Cocking difficulty Exocet 165

Post by SeaCam »

Good Day everyone: I just purchased an Exocet 165 and am having difficulty cocking it using the rope cocking device. It appears that I cannot pull the string hard enough into the receiver to actuate the cocking cam. I have tested the cocking cam with the blade of a screwdriver and it does work but feels rough especially near the end of travel. This is likely due to wear and tear on this old bow. I live in Burlington and would like some recommendations where to take it for a reliable repair. Thanks!

It's still under warrantee, believe it or not. So for your postage to Kitchener, you'll have a new one, possibly overnight. Can't beat that, can you? Just click on the customer service tab above or call them tomorrow.

Make sure that your cocking rope hooks/handles are short enough. I have to pull up on my string 6" to 8" to set my 2nd hook before I cock the CB. Ensure that the safety is OFF on the CB before you start. If it cocks with a small screw driver when the shaft is pulled back it must cock with the string. Also make sure it is NOT cocked before you pull the string up. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum! If the bow has sat for a long time, it's possible the trigger mech. lube has dryed up. If the bow funtioned well for the previous owner, then all your trigger unit might need is a good cleaning. It's not that difficult a job to do. There are videos on you tube that show how it's done. If you're unsure, then it's best to have it done by Excalibur. There is a detent ball and spring that likes to leap out and disappear when you least expect it. Shoot safe and have fun.

Edited to add; Your safety has to be in the fire position to cock. Make sure your string isn't riding over the arrow retainer.

might check to make sure the rope is in the groove on the stock and not up at the safety.

X-2.
This is probably the No. 1 reason for an Excal not to cock. The rope has to be in the groove.
