i have both a Worksharp and a Lansky hand kit. Both do very well, however the worksharp is much faster! :)

If you want the ultimate guided knife sharpener check out tsprof.com , I recently came across them in a youtube video (A Box From Russia Changed My Life). Prices are very reasonable for what you get.

From reading this thread I decided to ordered a work sharp.
It came today and I've been playing with it all morning.

There is a learning curve to it for sure, but so far I'm quite impressed.

Not a lot of hair left on my arms!!!

Which model did you order, roly?

I pick up my Work Sharp KO when I go to the city at the end of the month.

I ordered spare belts off ebay from tx Sharpeners. Same 3/4"x12" belts, but MUCH more reasonable price. I also got a leather strop with compound in the package deal.

I just got the regular work sharp.
The KO is really nice but a little to steep for my budget

I'm really happy with this one, you should love the Ken Onion model. It's got a lot more features and the wider belts
Happy sharpening!!

I use a wet stone and a Chef's Choice. The Chef's Choice does a great job, but it will most certainly wear a blade down quicker. I'd still imagine it would take 30 years to completely use up the steel on a quality knife, but you can see the metal shavings where that simply doesn't happen with a wet stone. Cost is around $120, and I can shave with any knife in my collection. I inherited my grandpa's fantastic collection, and every knife in it is like a razor. Depending on blade quality, some only see the stone, and others I run through the Chef's Choice. It really does sharpen well.
