Accuracy between BH and FPs'?

Post by ihunt »

What difference in accuracy can one find between BH and FPs'?
Example if sighted in for FP's and then unscrew the FP's to BH's will there be much difference accuracy (bullseye/target)?

Thanks

It is a difficult question to answer really unless you experiment.
It depends on your fixed blade broadhead length, broadhead weight, cutting surface, number of blades, blade length, cut angle, blade vent characteristics.

Then add your arrow shaft characteristic, spine, arrow length and fletching.

Some broadheads group close to field points and some don't depending on the above notes.

Always test your broadheads and DO not assume that they will hit to the same POI as field points.

The most important sentence in any response you will have right here....

Oh boy this is one of them things, knowed what i mean vern.
I have never had a Bhead that hit exactly the same as the field pts. They have hit durn close fer sure, usuallly a fixed will be wid-in 1/4-1/2" at 20 yds n depends on the make n model of them. Mech. tend to hit abit closer even at longer ranges. I usually jus sight in usin my fixed broadheads

The 125 grain RamCats I used last year with my 330 had same poi as my 125 grain field tips.
The 100 grain Trocars that I used with my 310 hit 1 inch higher than my 100 grain field tips at 20 yards.
I also use 110 grain inserts which I think helps tremendously.

I know that I have to check with BH before hunting with them, but I just wanted to know how much should I expect to be out of POI compared to FP. That said, am I wasting my time shooting FP's when I should be shooting BH's and adjusting sights accordingly?

Again thanks to all who replied.

What Norm said, you need to test your set ups. My Toxic's POI are pretty darn close to spot on to my FP's.

Thanks for the replies. :D

That what I was hoping within the same POI general area and not like 6" away.

I've been really impressed with how close the Dead Ringer Rampage 2 Blade, 2" cut mechanical head hits at 40 yds compared to my field points , Only 1/2" or less difference ! Not enough to even adjust the scope for !

Wow 1/2" if I get some time today I'm going to try to get some target shooting!
Hopefully I get the same results.
