R.E.D.S. suppressor question

Post by Larry »

Never thought I would own a crossbow but I got the itch and bought a matrix 380. I got it put together today and I have to say it's way cooler than I expected. I did notice that the string is a good half inch away from the R.E.D.S. suppressor rubber and that seems too far. What kind of a gap do you guys recommend? I assume that to change this I will need to remove the string? Thanks in advance for any help.

Just shoot the bow to get your string broken in. It will take some shooting, but it will happen.

Thanks for the response Boo. Looks like I may need to shoot some before I consider sighting in to allow the string to relax/stretch a bit.

You will want it about 1/4 inch off the bumpers. Go ahead and sight it in and shoot it. The string will settle in. You will need a bow stringer to set your brace height. Just remove one end and rotate counter clockwise.

DO NOT shoot the bow if the string is touching the REDS! You need to keep a 1/4" to 1/2" spacing between the string and the REDS. I've had two customers in the last week who broke limbs due to shooting while the string was against the REDS.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I shot about a half dozen bolts tonight. It was tough to put it down but I didn't want to shoot much until I got my rail lube and string wax. Bunch of accessories on the way. Hopefully will be all set up by this weekend.
Thanks again

Larry, don't bother with any rail lube. I spray a rag with silicone and rub the rail down to clean it, then flip the rag over to dry it.
Use very little string lube on the serving. You want no wax to fall into the trigger unit. None, whatsoever.

Thanks again Boo. Looks like I need to pick up a can of silicone.

I apply a couple drops of military grade synthetic oil to a rag and wipe the rail clean when it starts to look dirty, then use a clean rag to dry it off. I rarely wax the serving and wax the string even less. If the string or server begins to look fuzzy or dry I will apply a little wax and rub it in when I am done shooting for the day, then wipe any excess off with a rag the next time I get ready to shoot again.
