My Sons Scores - First Crossbow Turkey

Post by SEC-ond 2 none »

My son got to come up and hunt with me today. On our way to the food plot we scared 5 turkeys that were feeding. We got settled in the hunt house at 2:45 pm.
At about 3:45 pm a gobbler walked down the hill to our right and begin feeding.
I was as excited as my son. He had to calm himself down and than ranged the bird at 17 yards. He took the shot and the hit was deadly. The bird ran about 15 yards and fell over, flopped a couple of times and was DEAD. This was my sons FIRST crossbow turkey kill with his new M330. Used 18" Zombie Slayer, 100 gr. Slick Trick Broadhead.
He was very Excited as was i also. We found his arrow about 30 yards from the pass through on the bird. It was buried in the ground about 4". Arrow and broadhead is in great shape. New blades for the broadhead and good to go for the next hunt. Turkey had a 6" beard, 1/2" spurs and weighed 16-1/2 pounds.
Son really likes his crossbow. Got it broke in just right. Small kill zone on a turkey. Our next hunt together will be in 2 or 3 weeks, hopefully.
( I did not take my crossbow as i wanted this to be about him and his new M330 hunt. Thanks for reading.

I have pictures on my phone but i don't have a photo bucket. I wish there was an easy way to get pics transferred to the forum. I'm old (Flash Bulb Era) and not up to todays standards.

Many years ago (son is now 24) i had a buddy make us matching wing bones (hand painted turkey scene) from his First turkey which he got during the Shotgun youth season.
I really like turkey hunting also. I have never killed a turkey with ANY kind of bow. Going to try this year.
Thanks Everyone. I will relay the congrats to my son as he left to go back home.

As long as the blades on the BH weren't bent you could keep it aside for a dedicated turkey hunting BH. A little duller blade helps to transfer more energy to the bird and not the pass through.
