String twists

Post by GRUNDY »

How many twists is too many. I have 2 strings from my gen 1 riser that I have on my gen 2 riser and I have to twist the heck out of them to get the brace height right.

What do you think?

To me, a string with too many twists looks like it has kinks in it rather than being relatively smooth and uniform. This picture is a little fuzzy on my phone, but that string looks fine to me twist wise.

Looks fine to me. I still laugh when I think about how many twists I put in the e.l string that came with my beast. Twist it till it screams uncle.

I am not a string maker, but think from the picture that you have a long center serving... Strings can not be twisted additionally while lengthening or shortening under the serving to any degree... I have mine made with a shorter serving in the neighborhood of 4-5" total... this allows more area between serving ends and string loops for twisting with less chance of kinks.

Just my $.02 for what it may be worth ?
( Some here may tell you that $.02 is too much in my case )

To me, it looks like the string was made from two bundles of the same camo string material instead of two different colors. It will look like it has more twists in it than it actually does. JMO

It doesn't kink while on the bow, but it sure wants to kink up if I take it off to twist it up some more. But with a little messaging I can get it all to lay nice when I let the limbs back down
