first weekend out!

Post by newbie »

And its over! Sat 2 evenings.
Went out Friday for a whopping 45 min as it just wasn't in the cards. Jumped something walking in. Ended up seeing a dry doe but no shot presented.
Sat went out for 4 pm. long sit until 645pm. Perfect weather/wind. Doe come out but she was skittish and hung up about 20 yards behind a clump of maple. About 4 min later a little 8 walked out where she did and he walked right bye her and to my salt lick. from that direction they need to turn away as to not be quartering to. He did just that and at 22 yards a put the firedot behind his shoulder and let it fly. No smack no jump... he just trotted off her about 2 min later. I get down cross the creek and find nothing but a dirty arrow.
long story short my bow got bumped and she was shooting 2 inches low....best part it was a clean miss!
Sunday winds were wrong until 4pm they turned perfect in my favour. Wanting to see how bad i spooked that 8 i went to the same stand... also there are a few monsters kicking around.
630 that 8 walked out at about 50 yards and stood facing away from me for 15 min.... didnt move. He then drops down into the creek and feeds heading south which is away from me. He meets up with a buddy about 75 yards. they both feed and continue south....last i saw of them.
about 705 i went to lower my bow and from the trees right below me in the creek out pops the 8 heading west perfect broadside at 15. Aim shoot smack. He stumbles up the ditch and stops just inside the treeline.... then waled in and i heard some crash.
Jump down go to the truck grab a smoke and head to find my bloddy arrow and piles of blood where he stood. Then he jumps up and runs 250 yards into the thickest he could find.
It was a long drag and long night but he was hangin in the barn.
I learned i will wait 30 min unless i see him drop no matter now. he was bedded 10 yards in bush not 250!
I hit little far back got a lung and liver. swhacker did its job.
Forgot my phone so this is the best i got his trail cam pic fattening himself up.

ps Wes you can have your Shwacker back.... its a little bloddy now  its the same one i missed with as well.... resharpened and new band after the dirt.

Now what to do.... got one week of shotgun coming up but i really hate being in the woods with idiots shooting at everything that moves.

I love how they have kept cutting tags back the last few years.... Ive seen more deer this and last then 10 years combined before.

I'm hunting in Southern Ontario 92B and all the landowners I met with on the weekend mentioned frequent deer collisions and numerous deer sightings this year. Hopefully the MNR gets their heads out of their "you know what" soon.
