New rope for C2

Post by nyexhunter »

I want to replace the rope on my C2 crank. I purchased 1/8" and then 7/64" Amsteel rope and it would not fit through the holes in the spool.
Is there a secret to getting this through?
Not looking to drill the holes bigger, so maybe I will go with the 5/64 Amsteel or the 2mm dynaglide, which have 1,000# break strength.
Please advise.
Thanks again in advance for the help.

I can buy the rope at various places, just need to know if 5/64" and 1000# strength is o.k, or if there is a secret to getting rope through the holes.

Just back from weekend hunting with vertical bow in Delaware County
Seeing no response for my question, I will go ahead and order the 5/64" size

Have you thought of using the butt end of a drill bit to determine the size of the hole?

Thanks I will do that. The rope can be compressed some and pulled through with surgical pliers. I will order the 5/64" rope, I believe it will be plenty strong enough and the other rope did not get wasted as it is used to tie down various things for example a kayak in the back of my truck.

I bought a small spool of 1,000 lb spectra from Twinline. $31.00 buys you 100 ft.

Thanks for suggestions, I will order 5/64 Amsteel direct to store free shipping .28 per foot from West Marine. So less than $2.50 for 8 feet.

I will keep you posted. Just ordered today West Marine part# 12357406. Got 8' for $2.42 including tax. It's dyneema from New England Rope Co. which is similar to Amsteel.

Success! The 5/64 size HTS 78 Dyneema rope fit through the holes and worked beautifully. This looks to be a little bigger in diameter (very slightly bigger) than the original rope that came with the C2, so I'm guessing it is stronger. It's rated at 1,000# breaking strength, so it should hold up well as my Matrix needs just over 200# to pull up.

It took me a few times to get this right. Hopefully my research will help some others.
