sharpening slick trick blades
Fellas.
Can someone tell me what material I need to buy and what's the simplest easiest and best way to keep my slick tricks sharp. Hoping to take them off the ferrule and use a flat sharp stone does that sound about right...
Thanks in advance.

Re: sharpening slick trick blades
I had good sharpening success using my Lansky utilizing the fine diamond stone. After that I would finish with a leather strop and compound.

I second the Lansky. If they get too beat up, I go through all of the grits ending with the diamond. Then to the leather strop. Gets em back to shaving in no time!

They probably have a special bevel on them . They do sell replacement blades much easier to replace then sharpen

Re: sharpening slick trick blades
Where do they sell the lansky stones or would a general purpose sharpening stone from canadian tire do the trick?
Re: sharpening slick trick blades
Bass Pro in Canada has them available with regular or diamond stones.
I use the 17 degree angle on the ST blades.

The leather strop came from Lee Valley in London/Canada.

I use a kME self aligning broadhead and replacement blade sharpener deluxe kit. It works very well. Gets blades so sharp you can shave with them. Being a meat cutter for over 50 years i like things sharp.

Re: sharpening slick trick blades
The reason I shoot replaceable blades is so I can do just that, replace them. Barring that, I'd just go with a carbide broadhead sharpener. As a side note, a used broadhead makes a great practice head.

Is sharpening a replaceable blade an oxymoron?paulaboutform wrote:The reason I shoot replaceable blades is so I can do just that, replace them. Barring that, I'd just go with a carbide broadhead sharpener. As a side note, a used broadhead makes a great practice head.

Re: sharpening slick trick blades
i bought DTM Dia-Sharp mini hones. Three creditcard diamont plates, coarse, fine and extra fine. These are fantastic for sharpening slick tricks right on the arrow.... any broadhead really. They stay in my pickup truck.... just dont leave them on the tailgate.

Re: sharpening slick trick blades
Replaceable or not, Slick Trick blades are very easy to resharpen or just to touch up. Takes less than 5 minutes and is a bit therapeutic to boot. There comes a time when you have to toss them though, but till then, Im a sharpenin away. At more than 20 bucks for a pack, I will take the time. Hey, lawn mower blades are replaceable also

Re: sharpening slick trick blades
Thanks for the reply guys.
I tried to sharpen then and can't seem to get them sharp I think I must be getting the angle wrong...
Anyways I'm going to order replacements and use my old ones for sighting in and shooting. Thanks to those who replied.

It sounds like a good effort but I think you're making the right choice. Besides, it's nice having the practice broadheads.Ontario Savage wrote:Thanks for the reply guys.

Re: sharpening slick trick blades
I have a KME broadhead sharpener, mainly used for my traditional broadheads but it will do a fantastic job on any replacement blade and is idiot proof to beat as long as you have a flat surface to work on. On exception to idiot proof - one must learn to use light pressure - hard grinding force is not the answer.
