Excalibur calls the Bulldog 400 a Matrix Bulldog 400. This model may not apply to you, though. The Bulldog spec string is reportedly 1/2" shorter than other Matrix models, 30.5" vs 31". It's probably close enough that you could twist a Matrix string to Bulldog length though, if that's what you are shooting. I tried finding the 30.5" citation but couldn't track it down.

The way to measure your string is to take one off that has the correct brace height on your bow. String makers measure their finished strings over hooks used to stretch them, I should say I do this, and at least one other maker that I know of. My 330 & 355 Matrix measure at 31-3/8" and set my string 1/8" from the bumpers. I'm using Danny Miller's Bumpers. That said, one twist on a heavy Flemish String shortens the string aprox. .050" - .060" in my experience. Afew extra twists on a string that will yield little stretch after installation will not hurt a thing, in fact it is good for the serving. I'm talking a full twist here folks, not a half twist. After several conversations with Excalibur, and Danny Miller, the strings are made the same. If you are measuring a string that is installed on a different model with the correct brace height, that is your length with adjusted brace, my Vortex, and Ibex took a tad bit different length string.
