de-cocking question

Post by Goose52 »

when we try to de-cock my son's 335 the string always hangs up on the ADF so that a 2nd person has to reach in & push the ADF lever in so that the string can go down. hhmmm, don't think we tried to have him take his finger off the trigger and push the ADF lever by himself... idk if that would work... anyway, we have no trouble with 1 person de-cocking my 335. any help or ideas on what's going on would be appreciated.

.....the method used to decock is:

1. while cocking rope is attached and pulled back with one hand,
2. disengage the safety,
3. push the ADF release in (and hold it in) and at the same time
4. squeeze and engage the trigger (both the trigger and the ADF release must be held in)
5. bring the string back to its rest position by following it back with the cocking rope.

thanks for the info, sounds like that will do the trick... it's a little unsetttling tho because i'm not intentionally doing that on my bow & i'm decocking no problem. maybe with my big mitts i'm pushing the ADF lever in inadvertently. i'll play with it & get it figured out. appreciate the help.

Once you do it a few times like Anthony stated, it becomes easy.

You just have to make sure you hold the ADF release in for the entire sequence AND keep pressure on the cocking rope with your other hand, then let the rope down "firmly" when you pull the trigger.

You may be "short stroking" the release and it's dropping back down before the string passes.

If you end up on the AFD, just recock all the way back with the cocking rope and start again.

Once you get it right once or twice, it's old hat!
