Don't do what I did.

Post by kdkretzer »

I've done it for years. doesn't matter if it was my crossbow, gun, whatever. when returning to my truck from a hunt my normal routine is to prop my bow up against my truck tire while I remove my climbing stand from my back or remover my jacket then i'd pack up my bow. well you can probably guess where this is going by now but on my trip this morning after packing up the truck, I proceed to back up and hear an awful scream under the truck. Yup, I forgot to pack my bow up. After a few choice words I inspected my bow only to find that one of the limbs was splintered, scope was all marred up, the trigger mechanized was cocked in the stock and the stock was cracked. take a hard lesson from me and never prop your bow on your truck, I no I won't anymore.

been there.i never lean or put anything on top of a vehicle. it goes inside or nothing. never lean stuff against a tree either. it will find a way to slide and hit the ground. best of luck fixin or replacing!

.....there are many things that we can do either while we are practicing, hunting, or returning to our vehicle after hunting that could be deemed to be bordering dangerous or just, for the want of a better word, absent minded, tired or just plain "stupid"!....let's just say this clearly did not fit in the dangerous category....man, I feel your pain! :( :?

Maybe you can enter this into "The Ultimate Crossbow Destruction Challenge".

Oregon bows used to advertise that their bows can be driven over and still be serviceable . If any Xbow could stand being driven over, it'd be Excalibur. I never tried this with any of my Oregons.

Sorry about your lesson.

Sorry about that lesson!! I've done the same when returning to my truck, leaning things against it. I may rethink that next time!!

Unfortunately that is the process of learning for most of us! Sorry to hear about your bow.

Last turkey season I drove off and left my shotgun on the ground as it was propped on my rear tire. A few days ago I drove off and left my 350 LE on the ground which was also propped against my rear tire. Got lucky on both and did not even scratch them. You would think I would learn.....

Tip for you guys: if you are going to lean on vehicle - lean against drivers door and if gun - in the crack of drivers door - pretty hard to miss it then and drive off.

I did that this morning with the door wide open and my bow actually got loaded into the truck. Good thing too cause I had to back out of the spot I was parked.
