Great/bad day for the Micro.

Post by Timmypo1 »

I took the day off work to hunt, beings the weather was great. My new Micro 355 put down its first deer around noon! Perfect shot on a doe, she didn't go 40 yards!

A few minutes ago, I was sitting in the man cave admiring her, when I noticed a 1" line on the inside of the left limb a few inches out from the limb pocket. Stomach sank a bit, but I thought maybe it's just a mar in the finish. After a few picks with my finger nail, it became obvious it's a splinter... it's 1" long and about the width of a toothpick. I know Excalibur will take care of me, but is it ok to hunt with it in the meantime? It's the first week of November, so I can't afford down time right now. I have vertical bows, but what pushed me to buy it was a arm injury. I'm trying to avoid pulling back a bow if I can.

Way to go on the doe. The ones I saw today went by the blind I was not in this morning at 30 yds.
I had the same thing happen with the splinter a few years back, but first part of Oct. and had it replaced in a few days, but with only less than two weeks left in the Pa. season, I would contact Excalibur and ask them.

Splinters are no big deal. Some here have sanded them off and kept on hunting.
I'm sure someone else will chime in that has had experience with the same issue. ;)

Cut it off with xacto knife sand lightly with some wet and dry and keep hunting. Get it fixed after season over. I have had several over the years and biggest worry is getting pricked with splinter so I cut off and sand.

I won't even bother sanding it if there's concern of limb failure. It's hasn't separated from the rest of the limb. It is raised enough that it catches on a cotton ball.

Shoot the bow. I shot one that I simply broke the splinter off on for over a year before getting the limbs replaced.
Congrats on the deer.

Maybe take a good " high resolution " picture of the limb and the effected area and email it too Customer Service... asking if they can get a new set comming in the mail with the promise of returning yours as soon as the new set arrives :?: ... that may allow you to continue hunting until the new set comes in? ( with no down time in between )

I messaged Excalibur via this site last night, no picture, but didn't hear back today. I'm not too worried about the splinter, beings the experience folks have said its fine to shoot. The splinter's on the inside of the limb, so it doesn't open up further when cocked. I'll keep on hunting with it for the season and just deal with it over winter. Im guessing the limbs should be easy to Swap myself?

Thanks for The opinions guys!

If your tiller or POI (point of impact) hasn't changed, you have zero to worry about. Deal with it after the hunting season is done and over.
