got it done

Post by xbowrook »

another member of our group and I went to our main bush this morning.. figured nobody has hunted it over the gun season ( we are the only ones allowed to hunt it) and with the rut on or nearing it's end , it may be a good time to see some movement. we parked the truck and started to our stands, the moon was full and bright which made it easy to get to stand.. i did something different this time, i brought my deer decoy/target and figured it might help draw something into range. wasn't in stand long and heard something walking around but couldn't see anything.. just after legal hunt time i noticed some movement and watched 3 doe's walk around but wouldn't come closer... 20 minutes later i watched another doe, a smaller one do the same thing.. then it all went quiet for a little bit.. around 8:20 am i looked to my left and there he was.. all i saw was a big body and a ivory white rack.. he was walking slow, head down and headed away from me.. i bleated a few times which got his attention but he put his head down and kept walking.. then i did the tending buck grunt and things happened fast from there.. he jerked his head around to look my direction then turned and started walking my way.. he came to the ditch/creek and stood for a minute.. i got my excalibur ready and used my range finder on a tree ( had an orange dot on it from the loggers) that he was walking to .. he come up the other side of the creek and walked in, head down.. i grunted to stop him and placed my 40 yard chevron a little high and let her fly.. watched my lumenock find it's mark and heard the thwack of the broadhead hitting the deer.. he turned and ran, i noticed a bunch of blood right away so i knew it was a good hit.. he jumped the creek/ditch, i saw my bolt end ( fletched end) fly out of him.. he ran 40 yards and piled up... my biggest buck to date.. a nice solid 10 pointer... sure feels good to come home with something extra in the back of the truck... got him hung and skinned out.. i got the head home and am going to do a custom camo dip on the skull.. can't wait.. will post the final pics when it's done..

Nice story and beautiful pictures. Amazing how the decoy and grunt call brought a great deer into range and you did your part. Congrats
