a nice doe taken with my .50 airgun

Post by MI Yeti »

Bagged a nice doe after a rough morning on the 16th with my sam yang dragon claw .50 pcp airgun( .35 and larger pcp airguns are legal for deer in MI ) . It was an extremely foggy day . Ended up having to pull over at a gas station and wait for the sun to come up before continuing . It was about 9- 9:30 by the time I got in the woods . Right as I got on the edge of the property I hunt I kicked up some does . Shot the one that gave me a clear shot . Hard to tell how far she was due to fog(range finder won’t work in fog) but id say 65 yards or so maybe closer . About as far as I’d shoot one with the dragon claw . She ran about 50-60 yards, dropped, kicked a couple times and that was it . Shot through the heart from front of armpit back up into the off side lung and stuck just under the hide . Dug out the round ball but lost it between stopping by my parent’s and going to the butcher . Did grab a few photos of it though . She was 98.9lbs dressed .

And as an added bonus my drivers side wheel bearing has gone bad very quickly . At least I got a deer before it went lol

At 25 yards 3 shots go into a big hole or a nice cover leaf depending how I'm shooting that day . At 50 yards about 1.5" ctc but it is capable of better . It has a very heavy "lawyer" trigger , it would be easier to shoot accurately with a decent trigger job .

One of the first groups I shot while sighting it in last year .

The round balls from my .500 Lee mold are 188gr . Velocity is in the low 700s producing approximately 215FPE . It can do about 230FPE with a 225gr slug in the mid to high 600s . The barrel is pretty much meant to shoot round ball as there is no leade cut for loading slugs easily . I could have it modified but I have been happy with the round ball performance .

It is filled to 2,900 psi and can be filled from a SCBA tank or a specialized hand pump . I currently use a pump as the tanks cost about as much as the gun .It's a heck of a workout, I'll get a tank at some point .

Depending on your local dive shop some of them won't fill a scuba tank unless your a certified diver.. Might wanna call around and check it out ,,,I have a couple of dive tanks if your interested let me know
