The Phoenix has landed

Post by The Little Count »

Got my Phoenix today and have been testing it out a bit. Sure is a nice xbow, really happy with it and wanted to share that there is now one more in the family of Excalibur users.

I got some extra strings with it wich is Always a good thing (flemish dyna flight ones), however i found that I also got a few strings called "crossbow stringer" and a extra long string that looks like a flemish dyna but again is longer and dont sit still (it jumps out of one of the mag tip spots) when i try it on (turned it so many times I am pretty sure its for some other bow. Anybody know what "crossbow stringer" is for and what this strange (to me anyway) longer flemish can be for ? I wont use them becouse they dont seem to fit the Phoenix at all sadly :(

PS

Merry Christmas all!

regards

Congrats on the new bow !
The cross bow stringer is used to change strings and maintain proper brace height the stringer is a short string that will keep the bow cocked to allow the shooting string to be removed, replaced or twisted.
On this site are videos on cross bow set up and maintenance I recommend all new Excalibur owners watch they are very useful.

Spend the few bucks and get yourself an Excalibur stringing aid - it has hard plastic (?) loops that go over the limbs connected by a string.

Sounds like you have an old style string aid. I had a couple of them with my old Hortons. The end loops were larger. You slipped them over the existing string in the limb tips and because the stringer string is longer it only flexes the limbs enough to release enough tension to get the bow string off (so you load the bow with the stringer string).

The larger loops on the stringer allowed you to get the bowstring out "through" those loops (while they were holding the limbs in place).

I'm probably doing a poor job of explaining how they work - one of those "need to see it in action to understand" things.

Then you slipped the loops of the new string through the large loops on the stringer string, put them over the limb tips (properly in place) and if the stringer was "the correct length" you simply "pulled the trigger" (fired the bow cocked with the stringer string) - the stringer would fly off and the bow would be strung - worked great (although is sounds like something you shouldn't do).

Many thanks now I know what it is, was a bit counfused what those "stringer crossbow" strings where.

Oh, and i do have a stringing aid (the one with the big hard plastictriangles) for changing my strings, forgot to mention that. In fact i have 2 of those. and 3 crossbow stringers now as it seems
But hey , still got 2 extra dyna flemish 1989 strings with the xbow and the excal 1984 darcon string so its ok. Many thanks for claryfying, was very confused on those "crossbow stringers" strings though.

Gerald Strine: Thanks, love the this xbow, going to baptise her Before christmas :D From what I've heard these old exo series bow's seems to be holding up for many years if treated proper, wich is what I was looking for.
Have watched the dvd too.

You have a great bow the old models are extremely dependable and accurate.
I am still hunting with an Equinox I got quite a few years ago it has taken deer every year never has let me down.
Older models are a bit wider / longer but I never hunt from enclosed blinds I do not care for them it really has not been a big issue for me.
Enjoy your new bow it is a fine tool .

Congrats.
I picked up a Phoenix last year from a co-worker for my wife and daughters to use...they couldn't cock my Vortex. lol
They really like it and I enjoy messin' around with it once an awhile too. :)

Thanks all! You really make ppl feel welcome on this forum, props to you all for that indeed.

I have a question about the dissapator, shall one remove it if storing the crossbow for a month dissabeld? and should one take it off if traveling with the bow more than 24 hrs ?

The S5 system: Is it worth getting one, more for save the limbs from the shock/vibrations to the limbs ? I mean does it help save the limbs so they hold up longer is what I am trying to ask. Going to shoot a couple of hundreds shot/week or so in general, sometimes more.

Only had her/it a few days but the more I shoot her/it the more I fall in love with this magnificent bow :)
