Yet another example of the press not being able to get the facts correct.

Perhaps it is for these two b/c of the "weapons cache" they were busted for ten years ago? Its just a wild guess, but reporter failure is just as likely. Hope the officer mends well.robertyb wrote:A crossbow is a prohibited weapon there? OMG!!

Re: London Cop Shot With a Crossbow
yes, either that or it was a crossbow that was not up to specs for hunting ( like the handgun style or modified to be more easily concealed?)... should be interesting to find out why they classified it as a prohibited weapon... or maybe they were banned from owning any weapons at all, that could possibly be another reason...

Re: London Cop Shot With a Crossbow
A close friend that has an electrical contractor business used to use a pistol type for shooting a line had to get rid of his a lot of years back because they were outlawedHunt it wrote:Hand held Barnett pistol crossbow is a prohibited weapon in Canada, has been for many years.
Re: London Cop Shot With a Crossbow
Reading the whole story it sounds like "they" were prohibited from owning any firearms due to previous charges of unsafe storage (got caught with loaded guns laying around) and trying to smuggle high capacity mags across the border.
Where a person is convicted, or discharged under section 730 (which covers a pile of offences including the two noted in the article)
"shall, in addition to any other punishment that may be imposed for that offence or any other condition prescribed in the order of discharge, make an order prohibiting the person from possessing any firearm, cross-bow, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device, ammunition, prohibited ammunition and explosive substance during the period specified in the order as determined in accordance with subsection (2) or (3), as the case may be"
So while they were most probably "prohibited" from owning a Crossbow the reporter probably doesn't know the difference and misquoted it as "a prohibited weapon".
After all, this is the same media that went ballistic when they thought someone had been shot by a crossbow in a Toronto Suburb a little while back, as in: "Did you know that ANYONE can just walk into a store a buy a Crossbow without any kind of a licence?"
I like to say yes they can. We have them in hanging in the aisle right next to the k itchen and butcher knives which can likewise be bought without any kind of a licence...
