Bulldog 400 vs Matrix 380

Post by Squirrel »

Besides the bullpup design, do you really notice a difference when cocking and shooting the Bulldog 400 and Matrix 380? Allot of people have said they are very close in performance.

I have both. With the same limbs, string(set at optimal position for each bow) and same arrow (used various arrows with each) , the BD400 is exactly 5'/sec faster than the stock, unmodified M380. However, the limbs that came on the BD400 are weaker than what came on the M380. The BDwas either 1 or 2'/sec faster than the Matrix as they came, and that was with the advantage of a 99g string(BD) vs 115g string on the M380. The cocking is a wash if you're long armed. The cocking seems easier with the BD but the pull is noticeably longer. However, that's with the weaker limbs back on the BD. I think I like the 2 bows equally well.

The BD has a gentler feel. A nicer feel during the shot. Only complaint I can think of is that it's hard without extender rings to get the scope far enough forward for me on the BD.
FWIW, next year, my M405 & BD400 will be my primary bows for dawn to dusk or evening hunting with a 480-500g arrow set up on the 400 and 435g arrows on the 405. Optimizers and 2-8 lighted Duralyts on both. 405 for soybean and longer range shooting/hunting. 400 for bear and woods hunting. 380 with 395g arrows(175XBTrick - bought a bunch on closeout) and XB75 for morning and daytime hunting. The M380 is stripped of accessories, a 115g string that is as fast as Danny's 99 g string and deadly accurate to 80 yds with a XB75.
Pros and cons to each : 380 & 400.

It seems that the 380 is the better all around bow.
