Sighting in matrix 380 first time

Post by Karl »

Good gosh its not as easy as it looks is it. Back and forth from the target, on at 20, off at 30 and 40, stuff loosening, I think I bent an arrow which threw things out for quite a bit. The middle bit of the string, I assume the serving is looking very haggard now, reminds me to check the manual I assume I should have put something on that first? Got it back to shooting at 20 again before I left. Will try it all again next week see if I can get shooting any further . Can't even blame the barrel heating up or bedding shifting like I can for rifles. This is pure user error. I may be too much of a dumb rifle gorilla for this sport.

Don't wax yer servin, if'en scope is Factory wid fps ring. You sight in at 20 wid main xhair. Then its a matter of how fast arrow speed is to twist yer magnafacation /fps ring to match arrow at distant yardages. Yo have to use the blue loctite on screws

And it sounds like your string latches are rough and eating your serving. Probably need to be sent for warranty polish or you can polish them yourself. Do a search on polishing latches on here.

Thanks for the advice Robert. In Australia so will see what warranty options our distributors have. Otherwise I will learn how to do it.

A bit peeved I am polishing parts on a $1000+ item to get it working properly though, should be an easy enough check at the factory I would have thought?

VM yes guesstimated I would be around 355fps with factory diablo+ field tip at 400grain arrow. This works out around 112footpound, same energy as the advertisied 350 grain at 380fps. Its possible the bow is shooting less than my estimate though. I had it fall quite short of 40 yards through the reticle after it was zeroed at 20, arrow bounced off rocky ground and ended up lost in the brush.

Did you use the 20 yard chevron when shooting the target at 40 yards, it is a very easy mistake to make. If you have dialed your scope in at 20 yards, move the target out to 40 yards, you may want to double stack targets knowing that the arrow is going to drop quite a bit. Use the 20 yards cross hairs and pick a spot high on the target. After you shoot put the 20 yard cross hair back on the spot you were aiming at and turn the speed ring until the 40 yard chevron is exactly on the rear knock of your arrow. You may need to tweak it some more but it should be pretty well dead on.

Here is a link to Boos site Karl. Look towards the bottom of the page for instructions on how to polish your latches. Lots of good info here.

Make sure you use the blue (medium strength) loktite so if you need to remove the fasteners, you can.

After reading the latch polishing info, read all the rest of his site. Then do it again.

yes its been too long, onoing saga of waiting for stuff to arrive to my remote part of the world. Lastly was a rhinehart target, then sorting out the legalities and logistics. Crazily these are now registered firearms in my state, harder to own than centrefires, needed to get it seriel numbered, find good flat ground to zero, need 20 acres or more legally to discharge them and no rifle ranges allow them, only two archery ranges in the state will etc etc. Insane left wing government, someone must have used a crossbow in a robbery and this is the kneejerk result. So I finally got my ducks lined up, have places to shoot and hunt and ready to roll.

Thanks for the advice and links above, I had been directed to some of this before and clearly forgot in the intervening time. In particular not tightening the screws which is beginner level mistake..

As to reticles and zeroing yes have experience with long range shooting. I guess the easiest way is to chrony the arrows.

Good news is Aus distributor said I can send it in for warranty polish.

and one thing i was pleasantly surprised about was the noise. I don't like rifles anymore due to hearing loss and I was sort of worried because I had heard so much about matrix noise levels and even comparisons to 22LR. Not even close , this thing discharging is more like snapping a branch. I would say 95DB as a guess.

Hi Karl. I encourage you to read up on Boo's site and learn to polish your own jaws. It'll be much faster and you won't have the down time. It's really very easy.
