Are Matrix 330's GTG? (Micro's ?) and older bow question.

Post by learn2flyfish »

Once Excalibur went to the new lineup and then had issues I'm a bit nervous, especially in buying a used bow.

If I understand correctly, the Matrix bows began the trend toward smaller width and now the Micro bows are the latest iteration?

Which ones had the issues? How would I know if I'm getting one with problems?

Also, with all things being equal (3 bows, one older with the wider limbs, a Matrix and a Micro all rated for say 330 fps) which will shoot smoother? Quieter?

Thanks,

Paul

I have a Micro 335, a Matrix 330 and a 380. I shoot the bigger bows (330 and 380) slightly better than the Micro. They all kill deer; I personally think the Matrix 330 is the "unsung hero" of the Matrix lineup. Pretty easy to cock, adequate velocity, extremely accurate like all Excaliburs.

I wouldn't worry about defects. The only issues I've had with Excalibur products have been with the scopes, and Excalibur stands behind everything they make. I've never heard of anyone they've left in a lurch.

Matrix 330 is going to put meat in the freezer, and never give any backlash. You should have no problems with it, and if you do, well there is that bullet proof warranty. In my opinion, it is the best all around model out there for treestand, and ground blind hunting.

Of the three bows your asking, the Exomag 200 made between 2000 and 2004 was the Smoothest bulletproof bow I've shot. I would trust that bow over any bow made yet to date. And I've had them all. Except the ones just released.

For any of the newer bows, the limb issues have been addressed properly and fixed by Excal. So a lot of the problems you heard before are gone.

Having had 330 I also will give it a big thumbs up.... being of less draw weight and with shorter limbs than the 335 Micro with it's 270# draw weight, it did not suffer the limb issues the bows above 240# did... The bows including the 355 Matrix and below have all been proven to suffer very few limb issues, even when paired with the earlier "Over cooked" limbs the 380 and above bows occassionally did suffer from.

One bow not mentioned, but still available to the best of my knowledge ( ? ) Is the Limited Edition 350 SE and LE models, which can be found thru some Canadian dealers ( who in the past shipped to the US ) at a better price than any of the other Matrix models, including the 330 your interested in. IMO, It look's nicer with full camo of a distinct and much preferred pattern, while performing with and possibly better than the Matrix 355 that has a retail price about 1/3 higher than the Matrix 350 SE/LE.

Keep in mind, this is a limited edition model and will no longer be produced or sold once existing parts are exausted... I have one and consider it the nicest looking, easiest drawing bow in my Excal. collection. Maybe check one out , as it only draws 20# .. ( actually 10# heavier ) when using a cocking rope, than the 330 Matrix your looking at ? There are many posts here by guys who have one and love theirs.
