Still hunt, coyote down

Post by fratri »

Shooting skills have been off this year, so it is nice to get the monkey off my back...

I went out for a quick coyote hunt this morning and put this nice looking female coyote down.
I pulled into thefarm at first light only to find this coyote in the field about 150 yds away from me. He seen me pull in with my truck and took off. I watched him leave and was left thinking about what to do. Do I call, do I leave the area for another time?..... After thinking about it for a while I decided I would try and follow up on the coyote, still hunt her…..
I figure if that coyote went passed that bush in the background, it would come to some fields holding taller grasses (it might be there mousing)….
I waited about 5 minutes, got my gear and started heading toward the bush. I followed her tracks and they looked like they were heading along the edge which would take her to the open field. As I creep through to the edge of the bush, I looked over the little hill into the field and seen nothing. I waited and watched for a minute or two before I saw her mousing in the field about 150 yds out. I got down quickly, put my gun on my shooting sticks and got ready.
I started to lip squeak her, she came closer but continued to mouse. I continued to lip squeak, she would look my way but continued trying to catch mice in a rock pile. When she presented a good broadside shot, I took the now 110yd shot and down she went…………………..Nice to put down some fur again.

I just finished passing the bush seen in the previous picture and looking for that coyote in the field in front of me….
