Variable/adjustable insert weights

Post by ThunderXB »

While we're on all this good arrow stuff...

Does anyone make an actual insert that allows for different weights to be screwed in??

I know there are some external weights that can be screwed in, but the weight choices are limited AND it requires the weight to be on the outside and squared up to both arrow and point.

For example, the "base" insert" would be a threaded "sleeve" that fits into the arrow shaft and is permanently glued in, just like any insert is right now.

Then there are different weight "inner" inserts that screw in and allow your point to screw into them.

That way you could play with different insert weights until you find what works for your set up without having to make them permanent.

(Did I just give away my "million dollar" idea???  )

On the simple side of things my system revolves around a 9/64" allen head key end welded to a 22" stainless steel T-rod.

I simply remove a Black Eagle plastic rear insert and backload/thread a add-a-weight to the rear of the front inset using the T-rod.

My add-a-weight collection contains,
Aluminum inserts in 10 and 20 grains.
Brass inserts in 10 and 20 grains
the above are stackable, so multiples can be used in tandem.
Also used is a large variety of inexpensive steel inserts in 5 grain increments to about 75 grains or more if I want.

Achieving ideal FOC with an almost infinite adjustability utilizing a low cost simple approach was my main goal., and additionally, the fore above hardware is hidden from view.

Norm, how do you thread the "add a weights" onto the back of the glued in insert?

Got any pics??

Yes, those are the outside add-ons, I was thinking internal shaft add ons like Normous is talking about.

Gold Tip arrows line has a screw on rear weights that fit the back of the insert. You can add and remove from the nock end with there wrench rod combo. Not all that expensive. Looking at this my self,

There is a company out of Independence Missouri called PDP (Precision Design Productts) that makes various types and weights of screw in weights. They also make various styles and weights of inserts, including aluminum flat nocks. Their quality is excellent, their prices are great and their customer service is great.
