Micro 355 Vs Suppressor?

Post by toledo »

So I hunted this last year with a Micro 355. Was very happy with it and then the suppressor comes out. I would love for my rig to be more quiet. How much difference is there between the two? Could I do one or two add-ons to the 355 to make it similar and if so what should that be? Or would I be better to just sell the 355 and buy the suppressor?

Thanks!

IMO your 355 weighs less and shoots faster than the suppressor. The only thing I hear is the bolt slamming the target 8)

You own a great bow, keep it and add a Dr Stirrup kit. You'll have a very quiet bow with. The beauty of the thing no speed lost and musch easier to cock . There are some good videos on the drstirrup.com.

They sell the string deadening system. It is listed under accessories on the left side of page.

X 2 what Marcel said. if you install the limb stoppers you will lose speed ,but not with Dr. Stirrup's set up.

Thanks for the thoughts. I live in the suburbs and while I shoot in my back yard on a limited basis, its only a matter of time before a nosey neighbor complains.

I was also looking at the suppressor for the shorter stock. I plan on this bow being used by my kids in 2-3 years for stacking does up. But the extra weight probably negates that and no telling what will come out by the time they can hunt.

Don't want to add the weight of the Drstirrup but I am going to order the DBkiller bumper and limb silencers and give them a shot.

I like to reach the safety with my thumb while my other finger is next to the trigger and it seems that is not possible at the suppressor.

One of the advantages of living in the country - neighbours too far away to be nosey and when they do come over they want me to bring over the Excal or the rifle to take care of the Coons or Yotes getting into their garbage or composters :)

I have trouble deciding between the 355 and the suppressor. I like that the suppressor is shorter, but at the same time the controls (ADF, Safety) are a bit harder to reach. Also, the 355 comes with 4 bolts and is a bit faster.

I would use this crossbow for target shooting (since hunting with it is illegal right now where I'm from). I'm a bit worried about the draw weight of the Micros (given that I'm a pretty skinny guy). I have no shop close to me to try out the draw.

I have looked at the GRZ2 as well, but it has no ADF (I know I would dry fire it at one point) and I'm not a fan of a non-illuminated scope.

So the 355 is lighter than the suppressor? Are there any other advantages/disadvantages? Could you recommend another recurve? I looked at the barnett recruit recurve - which would probably enough for target-shooting right now (but I heard bad things about Barnett).

xbowdude,

If your not going to hunt with it ? I would buy neither mdel as they both the Micro 355 and Suppressor have a draw weight of 280# and are pretty much designed as specifically "Hunting Models".

IMO, that's way more than I would ever suggest for informal target pratice...
Personally, I would hate the thought of having to continusly ( sp?) have to resort to a cranking device that would have to be attached to back of the bow before each shot, just so I could continue to shoot after at best, (in my case ) just few shots using a rope cocking device.

For a purely "pleasureable" and accurate Excal. to shoot, I would suggest you look at the Matrix line from the 330 down thru the Saffire models.. Way have a way better draw weight to performance ratio and any model above 305 fps will certainly serve you in the hunting field. Besides the cost factor..

As to your concern of model having no ADF, it is available thru the internet or just about any dealer who sells Excaliburs and is easily installed while not "Breaking the Bank. Excalibur actually leaves it off their lower draw weight Matrix line bows up thru and including the Matrix 355 with it's 240# draw weight. Obviously they feel these models handle the stress applied shoud a dry fire occure at some point.

I think perhaps you live in Oregon with there no crossbow hunting policy, am I right? If that's the case I live in WA state just 16 miles north of Portland Ore and your welcome to come shoot and experience the 3 models I have in the collection.

L. E. Carroll, thanks for your input. I will take a look at those models. I agree with the high draw weight. I just like the compactness of the micros - especially since I'm not a big guy. Good to hear that the Matrix (and the GRZ2 probably as well since it has Matrix limbs) can take a dry fire. I'm from Germany (bow and crossbow hunting is illegal here).

So a 305 fps @ 350 gr (then probably what? 285 fps with 400-450 gr?) will be fine for any game? Just asking - if it ever becomes legal here to hunt with it.

About 285 fps at 400 grains with a 305 fps model is just about right. Rest assured that's plenty to get the job done should they ever allow hunting. I would really look at the Grizzly or maybe the Grizzly II with it's more Micro Style stock.

BTW, the Grizzly models have shown very few problems and have proven to be almost trouble free.

Check out the Micro 315... I'm partial to that model because that's what I have...lol

I sometimes think I need a faster bow then I remember how quickly it put last year's bear down with my 315. :)

I don't need a faster bow I want a faster bow. Right now my needs are winning and I'm sticking with the 315... :)

Nice.

bellerivercrossbowhunter, the Micro 315 plus the ADF (I don't really want to dry fire a micro  ) would cost me almost as much as the 335 (which has ADF), so I don't really see it as an option right now, the draw weight difference is only 10 lbs.

I could get a GRZ2 for 450€ + maybe the Tact-Zone scope (150€). I could also just spend the 450 and wait how much I enjoy shooting the xbow and then upgrade the scope.

Micro 315 would be 600€ - without ADF (deadzone).
335 700€ (with tact-zone 780)
355 850€
suppressor 890€

Matrix 330 - 630€ with deadzone

That all being new crossbows not used - maybe I should look for used ones as well!

If your looking at a Grizzly as part of a complete "Light Stuff" package it should come with a pretty nice Dead Zone scope as part of the package.

Personally, I prefer the Dead Zone or even a Varizone for that matter, over a tactzone. I think the clearity is way better with either of those 2 Excal. models.

If indeed, you feel the need to up-grade your scope 8) the Hawke XB 30 or XB 1 are both illuminated and I think much superior to the tactzone.

If illumination is not a "Must Have" then simply buy the Nikon "Bolt" model for much less money than any of the illuminated scopes I have mentioned and never look back. :D Even though it lacks a speed ring, the clarity and quality is great in these scopes and their crosshairs are just about ideally spaced with a 300 fps. crossboow in mind.

If the speed ring is actually needed in your opinion, then the Leupold Crossbones becomes " THE ONE " and IMO, I would have near the top of my list  as far as non-illuminated scope up-grades out there go.

Now there are more expensive alternatives available if you have deep pockets  but I feel these are great values for the money spent. I hope this helps regardless of the Moodel Excalibur you choose.

BTW, all suggested include a lifetime warranty you can really count on.
