xb 30 pro vs crossbones
I was getting ready to upgrade my deadzone scope. I am considering either an xb 30 pro or a crossbones. I found them both at around the same $230 price. I know the Leupold doesn't have the lighted reticle. Just wanted to hear some other's opinion of the two. Thank you

Re: xb 30 pro vs crossbones
I too recently upgraded my Dead Zone scope. With my own research and help from the forum I chose the xb30 pro. I feel so far I made a good choice . The glass is very clear, gathers light well, nice recticle and I was looking for one with illumination that I could afford. Good luck on your decision.

Scopes are one of those personal preference things as everyone's eyes are a little different.
I have the Zeiss XB75, Hawke XB30 Pro and Vortex XBR. (Still have a couple Excal Tactzones too)
All illuminated except Zeiss.
Zeiss and Hawke have speed rings for simplicity, Vortex a little more complicated, but GREAT on a HAA Optimizer.
To my eye the Zeiss and Vortex have best glass.
I like the Zeiss reticle the best.
Overall, I like the Vortex best of the three, but I would honestly be happy with any of them.
If the Zeiss was illuminated, it would be a harder choice.
Just another 2 cents worth.

I hunt right to dark for a Buck here in pa and the lighted recticle is nice ...I would hate to wound deer at dark..BUT most folks do not shoot a deer near dark because of tracking ..I am set up with lighted head gear to follow Buck well into dark with GPS to bring me back to my stand etc ..SO the lighted recticle is nice for me ...

Re: xb 30 pro vs crossbones
I have and use both models you are asking about. My impression is if target is heavily shaded, or it's late afternoon with the sun going down near dusk, or rising near dawn, sometimes it's difficult to place crosshairs of my Crossbones on target without raising crosshairs above the target and then "Sliding it" down to try and insure I'm using the right crosshair for that distance.... I do think the glass may be slightly better in the crossbones.
However, since I have aged, I have found the wide range of the illuminated crosshairs at dusk or in heavily shaded areas make target aquisition much faster and more reliable for me using the XB30 Pro's.
Given a choice, I would gladly trade my like new Crossbnes for another XB30 Pro and this would result in all 3 of my bows being equipped with one.
I would add that IMO, if your shopping for an XB30 SR Pro, to get the newest generation without the circle around the main crosshair.... I have one of each and definately prefer the standard crosshair model to the slightly earlier model with the circle surrounding the main crosshair.

Exceptional glass. If it was illuminated it would be on my bow.aib1015 wrote:Any opinions on the zeiss xb75?

Re: xb 30 pro vs crossbones
I have both, if your eyes are young the Crossbones is way to go. If 45 plus then the illumination excels if hunting near dusk or dawn or dark animals such as bear, moose or hogs. The black yardage crosshairs disappear quick on Crossbones if subject is dark.

The Crossbones is a great scope for deer. However for Bear or hogs I feel like lighted reticle is a must have.
If you get a chance to look through a vortex XBR you will quickly forget about getting a Hawke scope...

Re: xb 30 pro vs crossbones
After reading every thread and review I could find I've finally decided on the Hawke xb 30 pro. It seems every time I thought I had my mind made up I would read something else and change my mind. I think the price I got and the lighted reticle is what finally won me with the Hawke. I like the idea of the lighted reticle. I talked to Dave from Wyvern's and got a pretty good deal on the scope and a set of rings. Thanks for all of the info from everyone.

I have the Ziess XB75, to me its abit better glass n reticle than either of the others. Its got 5yd dots in between the yardage markers. Very clear glass but its a long tubed model, as stated it does not have illumination. Really you jus about have to look thru them yerself n then figure which you like.

Re: xb 30 pro vs crossbones
I think as far as scopes in that price range go, the Hawke you're talking about would be my choice. I've been spoiled by the Vortex Viper XB-R but that's a different story. I had the opportunity to use that Hawke at Boofest (Comfybear's) and was very impressed. It's a great scope and was set up with accurate marks to 100yards with little effort. That's saying a lot. I think you're making a good choice without breaking the bank. Another plus is that Ironoggin uses that same scope and has some of the best 100yard groups you'll see (and everything in between) and he's doing it with his 125gr Spitfires to boot. He swears by that scope and anything that INSANE hunter swears by is certainly worth taking a close look at.
