California turkey down w/ Micro

Post by Cali74 » Sat Apr 22, 2017 8:55 pm

Got to sit in the blind this morning but was not expecting much after a very disappointing opening weekend.
Lots of calls at first light then they all ran off to water and not in front of me.
Was the first time hunting with a few new buddies and appreciated them letting me take the first shot :)

Started hearing faint gobbles in the distance and gave my new slate call a few clucks.
Heard two birds come closer and then get farther away...
Gave another cluck or two with a purr, only to hear a loud gobble right behind my blind, darn ninja...
The solo tom came in hot an bothered to my decoy and was practicing the strut & spin.
Waited for him to flash his rear to me so I could get into position.
One and done., home by 9am...
Not the biggest beard (~5") but nice spurs and weighed in at 21lbs (pre-dress).
Will be eating delicious turkey cutlets tomorrow night along with smoking a leg or two.
Excal Micro Xbow using Swhacker 100g 15-16 yard shot

Congrats on a fine turkey. What kinda lizard is that? Looks like a small confused gator.

Funny you should say that... They are alligator lizards. Super cool little bug eaters that move through the grass like an alligator swimming in water.
The long tails mean these guys have had few encounters with the local bird population.
They are not the friendliest lizard and tend to bite a lot ha ha.
I used to keep them as pets when I was a kid.

Sadly my old smoker is headed to the recycler as the rusty pin holes have gotten too bad.
On a happier note, my new Green Mountain Grill DB shows up tomorrow :)
