Rifle scopes on xbows

Post by bill1111 »

Was told today that rifle scopes will not stand up to recoil from a xcross bow.
Is this true
Vortex has a 1 to 8 24mm
Short scope that seems like it would be nice

Not true, the recoil is gentle from a crossbow compared to a heavy recoiling magnum rifle.

I have used rifle scopes on my Excalibur crossbows mostly since my first Exocet in purchased in 1991, and 100% without issue I might add, plus I gained more smiles per hunt using premium glass like Leupold.

What Norm said, the old "crossbow recoil will ruin a rifle scope " is just some marketing mumble jumble. For years I've used the leupold 1x4 with a heavy duplex. The best thing about that scope is it's versatility I've had it on:
12ga slug/turkey gun
50 caliber muzzleloader
44mag lever gun
45-70
Now if you were to put one of these cheap scopes they sell with crossbow packages on any one of the guns I just mentioned it would probably not handle the recoil. Jefro

I've used quality rifle scopes on crossbows for several years with no issues.

I bought my crossbow back in the early 80's, it came with a rifle scope. I used it for many years, I think is was 15 years old before I replaced it under warranty with another.

The major difference is when siting in, the rifle scope is usually 1 click = 1/4" at 100 yards where a crossbow is at 25 or 30 yards. A rifle scope is aprox 6-8 clicks at 30 yards for 1/4".

I've been using a Leupold shotgun/muzzle loader scope (2-7x33 heavy duplex) on an Excalibur with good success. Try calling Dan Miller (Excalibur Rep USA) 740-483-2312 for more info.

Leupold rifle scopes have held up much better than TenPoint & Excalibur crossbow scopes for me.

I have used 3 different Vortex rifle scopes, without a single problem, a Burris, and a reflex red dot,, what you were told was a myth,, don't believe it,, if the scope is worth it weight,, no problems! If it ain't, it won't hold up on a rifle either.

I used a Leupold 1-4x20 shotgun scope on a crossbow for five years without any problem.

Sometimes all the chevrons are confusing .l need them on my slower bows but on my 355 its so flat l honestly could live with a single recticle shotgun scope sighted in at 30 yard and do the "high low"aiming system
