Stupid hunting rules our states have

Post by longbow joe »

I would like to start a thread with stupid rules our states have. ....lm gonna vent with the pa turkey blind rule... ( you gotta hunt from a totally enclosd blind. No ghostblind allowed .or simple fabric ones. Another member mentioned a ny draw weight limit. A slug gun can go 1700 fps but a crossbow in the same county cant go 400 fps lol.

Georgia is pretty simple:

ARCHERY EQUIPMENT
Crossbows, longbows, recurve bows, and compound bows are allowed
for hunting any game or feral hog. Arrows for hunting deer, bear or feral
hog must be broadhead type.

This might not be exactly what you mean but it bothers me so here it is. Behind our house was farm land and the owner put in two ponds and had artesian wells to provide year around oxygen for the fish. Well it had bass and catfish grapples and really was a great place to fish. The DNR bought the land with our money and capped the wells because they said it would be prone to ground water Add to contamination. So I talked to the DNR person and said every well in the area is artesian. All of them. They sure screwed that great place to fish area.
Then on a back road the DNR got the idea to take out a 5 acre piece of willows that was great for holding deer and raccoon and like. The willows were surrounded by marsh. Their supposed logic was that many years ago a certain bird inhabited the area because at that time the willows did not exist and the bird only stayed where there was low hanging habitat. The willow stood to high for that bird so it left the area. In their great wisdom and our money they spent the summer digging up those willows and now it is what the DAMN bird likes. Been ten years now and no fricking birds showed up. File that under make work project for job security. Idiots much.

We have a historic canal here that is (warm) water the state stocks it with trout every year only to have them die when the water runs dry in august. It would be fine if we didnt have other waters but we do and they continue to put the fish in these looser doomed waters saying they focus on angler access thats whats important. Same half a$$ thinking as above post.

In Michigan crossbows can not be used during the late archery season in the upper peninsula unless you have a special permit(aka old school handicap permit). Not even during the muzzle loader season can you use a crossbow . Seems our DNR think crossbows are more deadly than muzzle loaders. Yet in the lower peninsula anyone can hunt any open deer season with a crossbow.

One of the dumbest rules in PA is that crows are only legal to shoot on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

PA is still better than NJ with all hunting and firearms rules.

....I would gladly list all of the stupid rules in NJ but it would take days to write.....NJ has zones....tons of them...you can only hunt in the zone you have a permit for....and different zones have differing seasons, bag limits, earn a buck....I understand Farleigh Dickenson University is offering a PhD in NJ hunting rules....

In Mass if you are handicapped /disabled but not a Para or a quad . You can use a 4 wheeler or whatever to get to your blind but now you must get off it even though it would be shut off . The fisheries don't care that it took you some time to get on now I have to get off it they feel you would chase game down with it . There is no permit to allow otherwise

I called the Arkansas State Game & Fish to ask why we have such a rule. The answer seemed plausible.
The federal government has labeled crows as a migratory bird (I'd never thought of them as migratory). Apparently, migratory animals can only be hunted a certain # of days a year. Therefore, Arkansas picked only certain days of the week in order to lengthen the crow season.

Here in B.C., generally, crossbows are considered archery equipment and can be used for all game except migratory game birds. Our archery season, generally, runs from September 01- September 09 and is shared with youth hunters (16 years and under). I really don't know why they even bother with such a ridiculous archery season!......and get this one, slugged shotguns can only be used to hunt deer and bears. That's it. You can hunt moose and grizzly bear with a longbow but not a slug gun! Go figure.
....one more. You can be on a back road where you can legally shoot but you cannot touch your vehicle in any way while shooting. ie, if you're shooting at a bear up on a slash, you're not allowed to lean across your truck or use it as a rest or you can be charged with shooting from your vehicle.

.....but what my fratello Paul has left out is his ability to circumvent all of the BC rules  by bringing some Italian music and fresh Italian delicacies with him when he hunts ...once stopped (because of an apparent infraction) by breaking one (or all  ) of the BC hunting rules he starts playing the Italian music, breaks out some freshly baked Brick Oven Italian Bread, (which happens to be kept warm in his specially designed car warmer)....out comes the Sicilian Italian delicacies which he stuffs in a sandwich for the querying officer....soon the officer is asking Paul, "do you have some homemade wine?"....to which Paul promptly replies, "now that would be illegal, now wouldn't it officer?"....the officer blushes, thanks him for the sandwich, forgets why he came.....and paul gets off with nary a warning or ticket....so don't let hi m fool you!
