Leupold Scope on Capt. Jack Sparrow

Post by vixenmaster »

I am havin to reassess my scopes n models they are goin on. Have several in the Tradin post. At this pt in my life called older age, i am goin to better glassed scopes. Plus abit more power to see the target dot better. So i got this Leupold 2x7 VX1 shotgun scope. Have it mounted n sighted in usin field pts, will get the No Mercy's sighted in today. I was lookin at my targets n tree trunks n such last nite at 8:30 pm. I can tell you widout a doubt tick toters don't stand a chance :D Only thing i didn't reseasrch enuff is its the old style turn n turn some more focus at the eye bell. My other scopes have the quick focus which makes it easier when gettin started in the sightin process. I found that the power past 5x not to have good field of view at 30 yds n closer. So i used the 5x to sight in n does well fer me. Now the upper lvl of power surely will do well at longer distances

I really do not see the big deal on a fast or slow turn focus on a scope unless you are in a God awful hurry to get focused for some reason. I generally focus in my new scopes before I mount them on the bow and rarely ever have to touch the focus again after mounting them.

I am not a fan of the fast focus eyepieces, especially ones without a lock ring.

Y'all are correct, i got the scope lvled n plumbed snugged down good. Then i set focus n its good, thought i was gonna turn it forever. I went out this mornin after the rain passed n shot the No Mercy's. Total arrow weight is 420gr, sighted in wid'em. Hittin hard n solid n don't stick a golf ball up there at 30 yds! :) So Captain Jack Sparrow is ready fer season opener in 110 days

Mike ,Leupold's are my fave. Where I hunt you don't need a lighted reticle because the Leupold's are that bright. I think you will love it! And the best thing is that "Lifetime Warranty" that you will never have to use. :D

Mike, we are in agreement.
We've all read and heard , "There's no reason to put a higher dollar scope or great glass on a xbow because of the short ranges ", etc. I think such statements come from those who 1) have never used really good glass, and 2) those who haven't optimized the range potential of their xbows. Good glass helps at all ranges and particularly when the natural lighting is poor such as near dusk, under dense foliage, or both .
Though I only have 2 Leupolds, I really appreciate their quality and light construction.
It's very hard to beat a 2-7 VXR on an Optimizer.

I will get one of the VXR 2x7 models in the future. I have the Zeiss XB75 on Marie Laveau, i have the VX1 2x7 on Captain Jack Sparrow. Anyone ever used the Leupold VX1 1x4 n liked it ? I am thinkin of gettin one fer anudder of my crossbows that i keep my shots 40 yds n under

Mike, the Leupold VX-I 1-4x w/ heavy duplex is my fave hunting scope. Bright, clear and the heavy duplex work great for dusk/ dawn. For a couple hundred bucks, it is great! :D

The 1x4 Leupold with heavy duplex is perfect for thick woodland hunting. I've got one on my crossbow and 45-70. Nice and light also. There's a 1x4 vx2 in the trading post. Jefro

And this is the point!! Again, I stress the point, it's not only about range that good glass is important! It's also about seeing better in low to nearly non-existent light. Those first and last 10-15 minutes morning/evening when the low quality glass scopes are unusable yet the high quality glass scopes are usable, are often as valuable as the entire rest of the day period.
