Zombie Tough
First time I've ever had any arrow aluminum or carbon survive a close encounter with a 2x4 . The arrow was sticking about 4 inches out the back of the pressure treated 2x4, I removed the field point, then I using a hammer/hammer and 3/8 punch I was able to drive the arrow back out.
Only a couple light scuffs that do not show in picture. No sign of any damage at the insert/shaft interface. A couple hammer marks on insert face were easily removed with my squaring tool.

I worked as an injection molding tech trouble shooting injection molding issues with various resins. Even though you can see no damage, I would have to recommend discarding that arrow. There could be stress marks undetectable to the naked eye which could cause the insert to drive back into the shaft when fired... which if nothing else could cause a "Messy" situation.

I agree with the above post; however, see how it does spin testing, especially with a long broadhead.
Re: Zombie Tough
I would do exactly that.SEW wrote:I agree with the above post; however, see how it does spin testing, especially with a long broadhead.

X2 if you were in a survival type situation it would be different. For the same reason when i harvest a buck with a shoulder or pass thru and hit rock ....the bolt becomes memoribilia. We spend so much on this crossbow stuff ....whats a shaft gonna hurt. I get your point and agree them zombies are tough stuff for sure!

I would also throw it out. Hit bad things in 3D shoots and arrow looked fine. Next shot it broke. If you are lucky it wont break until it clears your bow!

I agree. It's not worth the risk.

I agree also with the other guys to put in the do not shoot bin. I use these arrows in the garden to prop up plants. One thing I do check all my carbon arrows at 3D shoots or when they hit another arrow is run a cotton ball up and down the shaft if it catches you no you have a damage shaft.

Good call Brian. At least you can salvage your nock and brass insert. Torch the tip until your insert slides out then leave it in a glass jar with some acetone for a couple days and it'll come out like new...as long as it's still straight.Czy_Horse wrote:It's been scrapped better safe than sorry .

You're only paranoid if everyone isn't out to get you.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
