eBay scam?

Post by sjb »

I've wanted a Matrix Grizzly so bad, that when I saw one on eBay NIB for $320 with free shipping I couldn't push the Buy button fast enough! After walking around feeling all smug and pleased with myself that I beat everyone to this bargain,I went back to the ad to see where it was shipping from.It was then I noticed in the Item Specifics that the model listed is a Exocet 200 MPN 6746 39".Below that, in the Comments is another description with Excalibur's ad for the Matrix Grizzly. The title, picture and listing in the add was clearly for a Matrix Grizzly.I tried to cancel the order but it had already shipped.I also sent 2 messages to the seller with no response. It is suppose to arrive next week (14th) and I'll have to wait till then to see what I get.Something tells me it will be a Exocet, which I'm sure is a fine bow, but I want the Grizzly. Ebay has a good reputation for taking care of buyers so I'm hoping they will straighten this out.Meanwhile, not having learned my lesson(if it looks too good to be true etc.), another Grizzly listed for $299 NIB with free shipping (different seller) so of course I bought that one too. That one will arrive on the 15th.Hopefully out of this I will get a Grizzly and maybe a refund for the Exocet. After they come in I'll post what actually arrived. Thanks for listening.

Screen shot the ad before it disappears. If you used a CC then perhaps you can cancel or reverse payment. Paypal may have some way of helping you as well. If it said exocet then your likely getting an exocet despite what the wording and picture may lead you to believe.

good luck

Also take pics or video of yourself opening the box and any tape lines so as to show the condition of the box before opening to validate the condition of the package before it is opened so the buyer does not blame you for a false claim..

Based on a few clues I have seen looking at the same auctions, don't expect a bow of any kind to show up. Last week there were several Matrix Grizzly auctions from sellers that all had 0 feedback, and were brand new ebay members, and had usernames that ended with with a hyphen or underscore followed by a number or just a number. They all used one of two different descriptions, and were only selling one item. Your seller created their profile, posted the auction, and sold the crossbow all on the same day. Another similar sale was sold by seller mkenenila0 and used the description lifted from Vergona Outdoors, a legitimate seller. It looks like ebay has cleared them out, since I don't see any of them as completed listings. There is still a Matrix Grizzly being sold by panozzoengelk81_6 that looks suspicious as well. Good luck and keep us posted.

I just looked at the sold listings and there were two sold at that price and both were from new sellers with exactly ZERO feedback ratings between them. I hope you used Paypal to make your payments.

if they have little or no feedback its tough because you cant start a claim right away but you can contact customer service and indicate they are a fraud. in my case it was a newer seller that had built up a months worth of great feedback. they even sent a tracking number but the number indicated it was going to a different state. Ebay had me wait a week til the item arrived at the tracking location and then i sent them info it wasnt even my home state. they refunded in a few days after that.i cant help but think Ebay has these scammers all the time and dont weed them out better because its money sitting in there accounts for a few weeks.

I would not even accept the package. If you went through Paypal get a complain going and as much evidence gathered as you can. Good Luck;

I just made and offer on an item with free shipping but when the offer came out there was a note stating no shipping on offers. I promptly cancelled my offer before he had a chance to accept it. Good thing that he was slow.

This happened with me. The seller had hijacked another e bayers account . I won't buy from anyone that doesn't have at least 25 positive feedbacks.
Paypal got me back 320 dollars .the only thing I was out was the 25 dollar shipping fee...
I will not pay for anything except Paypal.
Good luck with your purchases.
Hope all goes well...

Received email yesterday that crossbow had been delivered to my house. No package had been delivered.Went to P.O. and they ran the Tracking # I had been given and it said a 1oz. pkg. had been left in my mailbox. They gave me copy of the Tracking report and the address on it was not mine ,but a lady in my zip code zone.I went to her house and she had received an envelope with my tracking # on it.She did not order the item, which was some junk jewelry, she gave me a copy of the envelope which I think should be good evidence.Called eBay and they are investigating . cricman 's description of the sellers is 100% correct-new eBay members, selling only one item,0 feedback.Seller created their profile, posted the auction, and sold the item on the same day.A description I will definitely be looking for in the future no matter what I buy on eBay.I'll keep posting as things develop. Thanks for the support.

There were scams on E-bay for Excal accessories also:

Camo cheek piece for $20.00

ADF for $23.00

Trigger tech triggers for $34.00

C-2 crank $18.35

I put these on my watch list just to see the negative feedback get posted and I did.

I was 1 of the lucky ones. I bought a Grizzly off ebay brand new for $496,last November. Contacted seller to make sure he was authorized to sell Excalibur. No problems with the seller or the transaction. I used Paypal for that transaction. Doubt if I'll take that chance again. I'll go through 1 of the regular dealers off the Excalibur Website next time. Thanks for the heads up.
